Even single cell organisms because they have one cell, y'know? Another one is the ability to reproduce. Some creatures need another one of their species, others can be a lonely and sad person but it still works! That's called asexual reproduction, making an exact copy of yourself, by yourself.          <description><![CDATA[<div>&lt;&lt;I picked response to stimuli&gt;&gt;<br>RESPONSE TO<br>STIMULI:<br>In order for something to be considered a living being, one of the characteristics it must posses is a reaction, or response, to stimuli. Stimuli is a stimulation, or a feeling in your nervous system, that allows you to feel things. When your body responds to these things, it is attempting to maintain homeostasis. Homeostasis is a word of Latin root words homo, the same, and stasis, a situation.  If you go by these definitions, then the word literally means "same situation". It is when your body tries to maintain certain body levels to fit the situation you're in. This is one way your body can respond to stimuli.</div>]]></description>

Some living things have to have two to reproduce (sexually), like a animal, or only one is needed to reproduce (asexualy), like a plant. This is very similar to the words repeat, replicate, copy, duplicate, and redo. This is why something like a wolf or a human is a living thing, and not a piece of paper. This is also known as biology. That definition is to produce one or more other individuals by some process of generation or probogation. This is considered the same thing as reproduction.
