Evelyn stood with her held high, her hair gliding behind her. Her navy, satin dress fit perfectly around her petite body. She wasn't tall or short, just right. Her 2-inch black heels clicked against the tiled floor. Everyone backed into their lockers when she walked past. A radiating confidence seemed to come from her. She strides through the hallway, like her tapping heels filled her with dopamine. Her skin was delicate, not an imperfection in sight. Something about her just screamed too good to be true. Most admired her, some despised her. Everyone was jealous of her. When she was around, she was the centre of attention. When she wasn’t creating stampede of girls obsessed with her, she was clung onto Ethan.

Ethan seemed like a perfect, idealistic teen boy, everyone loved him. He was rich and did what he wanted. He was always talking, socialising. But to me it was all about indiscreetly making people fall for his tricks. Every guy wanted to be his friend and every girl was in love with him. He acted like he was the centre of attention, quite narcissistic but it was true. He was the centre of attention. His bad temper could easily be played off as him being eager. You could tell when he was around, people swarming around him like a swarm of bees looking for honey, but one girl always stood out, leaning on his shoulder. He and Evelyn were so different, yet so similar.

I watched the paramedics help up a person wearing all black, they stood with a hunched back, not like they had a hunchback, just like they slept weird that night, and gradually walked to the back of the ambulance. They limped over to the rising ramp that glided upwards. As the ramp halted to a stop, they gripped onto the bed and swung themself over. I paid attention to their movements incase I could recognize them at school. If I ever go back that is. My torn open calf pulsated with pain; I could feel my heart pumping out blood that would only spill out from my rain-soaked leg. I don't know why I wasn't screaming. 3 paramedics gripped my arms and lifted me up. My head swirled around. If they weren't holding me, I would have dropped to the ground instantly. There was the scream. My lungs vibrated with the broken scream, I shook my head swiftly and bounced on my supporting leg. The scream became interrupted by my own sobbing for them to let me back down. My cry died out, slowly fading into hyperventilating as the pulled me over to the same ramp as the other person. As I laid down on the cardboard-like bed, my eyes went blurry yet again. Everyone's movements were fluid, the lights above were glistening while the ambulance flew over the potholes causing my head to sway from side-to-side. The gauze bandage wrapped around my left leg stung with unbearable pain. I tried keeping myself steady, breathe in, breathe out. I closed my eyes, wishing for the time to pass. Once they pulled into the hospital, the paramedics gently slid me onto the stretcher which I don't know why they didn't do that first. Their steps were rhythmic, tapping along the yellow-tinted tile. I'm sure things were more chaotic than I thought but I enjoyed the peace of just lying there, watching the hospital roof glide by. Once I was still again, the pain came back. Something about the cooling breeze was tranquil. As I started crying again, the staff seemed unhurried. Stampedes of nurses rushed by. Why did no one care?

He sat on the stool. His knees banging together as he rocked back and forth on heels. He stopped abruptly and stood up on his shaking knees. He kicked both his legs behind him and paced around the table in long strides, taking less than 5 five steps to walk from his chair to the centre of the room. He did that about 3 times and walked back to the stool.

He walked back and sat down, swinging his head back while playing with his rings.
He walked out, slamming the door shut, I chased after him, slowing my pace as I reached the sandy bushes. He ran down through the concrete path and dragged his hands along the metal bars. He kicked up the sand behind him and ran to the shore. The ocean rippled in rings like Saturn's. Smooth, rhythmic and graceful.
He was standing so still, looking out at the speedboats.

I sprinted down next to him and after I collected my breath, I whispered,
"I'm sorry." like a little child. He scoffed and just said,
"I don't care. I never did." He said in a voice that was unfamiliar. It sounded deep and spiteful.

My throat swelled up. He turned and looked at me, going against everything I know is true, I shrugged my shoulders and said, "Neither did I." I turned and headed right for the house. His head turned, then his body. He clapped slowly and yelled, "Real mature of you.". I was done.

I strutted back over to him. Looking up at him, his eyes looked dark. His eyes were typically hazel coloured, pools of honey. But right now, they darkened.

The wind was sweeping away leftover take-away cups left on the pathway, blaring horns and distant sirens. Max cupped his hands over his ears to muffle the sound as people hit their shoulders against him. The light flashed green and made a ticking sound as people found their way around the maze of cars. The light rain became heavier, people trying to push up their umbrellas being careful to not let them invert. The cars turned on their headlights and beeped at the last few people crossing. The taxis were backed up down the end of the road so Max got up and went up a flight of undercover stairs and sat, watching people run past everyone else. The traffic was jammed, and people started to collect and bunch up against the walls. Someone that had been beeping any chance they could get climbed out of their black range rover and started yelling at the people behind them. The sun had almost fully set, and the top of the sky became and extremely dark green. Red and yellow lights illuminated the little stores closing up.

Each repercussion of the thunder shook my windows. Tears ran down my face as each plate dropped downstairs, I had my knees tucked close to my stomach and the blanket covering my neck. The noise of the yelling was perfectly synchronized to the thunder. The door downstairs slammed and so did a flash of lightning; illuminating my dark room. The car revved and sped down the pitch black street, screeching as it swung around the corner and then he was out of sight. The heavy rain lightened to quiet pattering along the roof. The big grandfather clock downstairs rang as the clock hit 12pm. The next morning I woke up to a wet, windy sky, puddles spread all over the pothole filled road. I trembled as I stepped down each step, counting them like I do each morning. One, Two, Three, Four- wait, no start again

He headed for the end opposite the metal door with light blue light spilling out from under and grey balloons weighted down by metallic stars. He smiled and his walk slowed and I saw him turn around before people walked in between us. I turned back to my locker. I ran home as fast as I could and once I got up I carefully got my light blue lacy dress and put it on quickly, careful to not damage it. I brushed my hair and rolled it in bright pink rollers. My dusty brown hair rolled tightly with my pearly highlights streaking through. I took my eyeliner and drew a short wing as my Hollywood mirror shined all around me. I got slightly shimmery eyeshadow and brushed against my eye.

I got home and slammed my door, I heard the rain spill over my balcony chair. Drop, drop.

I rolled my wrist as the rest of my arm glided through the rippling water. I twisted my head to gasp for air as I drew my other arm up. A sharp pain hit my stomach and I swung my right hand in as my left hand waved through the water. As I placed my hand on the right side, gripping on for dear life. My legs were carefully wading through the water, I couldn't touch the ground. I knew this because I let myself sink down a few times, letting the water get to under my nose but I still couldn't touch the bottom. I spluttered the water out of my mouth and took a large breath and went back down, relying on my legs to get me to the end but I got 3 feet further and couldn't move further. I bobbed up and down, each time taking a breath that hurt my chlorine-burned cheeks. My legs got tired and I began getting lower and water spilling into my mouth mid breath.

I stood silently on the bronze-finished balcony, caressing my gloved hands on the smooth, shiny sides. My long, black hair danced along with the soft breeze as I gazed down at the maze of buildings below, letting out a long, exasperated sigh. The large train of fabric that sat behind me, derived from my corset felt heavier today, like a burden I had to carry along with me. It felt confining and choking, and so did the golden crown that sat firmly in place atop my dark locks of hair. My heart was thundering, pounding against the excruciating layers upon layers of material that covered my body, like it was so desperately trying to break free. I had to escape. I decided. I can't live like this anymore.

I gently lifted up my delicate crown, brushing my hair back down and looking at it's iridescent opals that looked like oval shaped miniature versions of a sculpted mercury. They were illuminated by the lights spilling out from my balcony doors. I looked at it harder, straining my eyes, then up out at the purple-like sky. Without thinking, I tossed it off over the railing and watched it as it hit the lower roof of the building, making it spin incredibly fast through the air. A small twinkle and it finally rested on the ground. I swiftly spun around, stepping back inside. Pausing for a moment, I halted my dress up and ran back down the gold and white marble staircase.
