In the novel their cars where helicopters. The people really depended on this to get from place to place. Helicopters aren't really much of a technology that controlled society but we see that the ones that had the use of a helicopter were very powerful. Also, as readers, we get an insight that maybe they don't walk very much or for too long because in chapter seven Lenina seems to complain about the walk to the Reservation.
"I wish we could've brought the plane," said Lenina, looking up resentfully at the blank impending rock-face. "I hate walking. And you feel so small when you're on the ground at the bottom of a hill."(Huxley 118). For not being much of a controller, without helicopters how would they get around? You could cripple them by taking helicopters away.
- L

While not being an actual piece of technology, they sure couldn't live without it. Soma is more of a biological technology. Mond and the Director put it in everyones head that by taking soma all the time it would keep them from getting old and crusty. They kept pushing everyone to take the drug because they wanted them to get addicted to it so that they would use it so much to where they couldn't comprehend their own situation. Soma was like a crutch for everyone, minus Bernard. Soma was an important part of the novel, so much so they used it at Solidarity Service as they worshipped their Ford.
"The President made another sign of the T and sat down. The service had begun. The dedicated soma tablets were placed in the centre of the table."(Huxley 91).
- L

In the novel it is very much known that being a mother or father is looked down upon; it's like a sin to their great Ford.
"The Savage," wrote Bernard, "refuses to take soma, and seems much distressed because the women Linda, his m--, remains permanently on holiday. It is worthy of note that, in spite of his m--'s senility and the extreme repulsiveness of her and appears to be much attached to her - an interesting example of the way in which early conditioning can be made to modify and even run counter to natural impulses (in this case, the impulse to recoil from an unpleasant object.)"(Huxley 167).
- L

While civilians may find meaning in Fordism, the world controllers use it as a way to control through its messages and the fact no other religions are allowed.
"Art, science - you seem to have paid a fairly high price for your happiness" said the Savage, when they were alone.

Written by Mitchell

People in the Brave new world are educated and conditioned through sleep teaching and electro shock therapy. Through this, the World State is able to ‘form’ the people, so that things like free-thought and the fear of death don’t exist. Also sexual and reproductive habits are formed in this education. For example, the children play erotic games in the hatchery and conditioning centre. For them it is normal that children do such things and have fun doing them.

“Till at last the child’s mind is these suggestions, and the sum of the suggestions is the child's mind. And not the child's mind only. The adult's mind too—all his life long. The mind that judges and desires and decides—made up of these suggestions. But all these suggestions are our suggestions…Suggestions from the State!” (3-22)

The government controlled kids minds from a young age with phycological techniques to greatly influence how think and react to certain things.

Movies that attract the most attention seem to be ones involving sexual content, since participants are able to experience those scenes along with the characters. Because of this intimacy, participants liken it to having actual sex, with is a staple in daily activity.

"Going to the Feelies this evening, Henry?" enquired the Assistant Predestinator. "I hear the new one at the Alhambra is first-rate. There's a love scene on a bearskin rug; they say it's marvelous. Every hair of the bear reproduced. The most amazing tactual effects..."

Written by Evan

In Brave New World, the method by which the Hatcheries manipulate the minds of young is known as "Classical Conditioning", or Neo-Pavolian Conditioning. The Hatcheries use classical conditioning to train children into fitting their respectively social caste. For instance, Deltas are conditioned to fear flowers and books, paradigms of nature and literature.

"Books and loud noises, flowers and electric shocks - already in the infant mind these couples were compromisingly linked; and after two hundred repetitions of the same or similar lesson would be webbed indissolubly" (Chapter 2, pg. 34)

Another example is more direct, and could even be classified as a process per se, hypnopaedia. Though it varies slightly from classical conditioning, the cause and effect of both are seemingly identical. Both processes involve training a subject to behave a certain way by either discouraging other behaviors or instilling correct behaviors.

Hypnopaedia is especially overt when the Director shows his students a room in which Betas are listening to an audio recording, the context of which described who they are meant to be under their caste.

"Alpha children wear gray. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard..." (Chapter 2, pg. 40)

The following GIF shows a rat being classically conditioned to press a button with the reward of food. After a period of time, the reward is removed, but we see that the rat continues to press the button.

Emotional engineers design most of the media in Brave New Worlds society. Equivalent to a writer of our world, emotional engineers write the scripts for feelies, as well as any other fictional story which may be seen by the public. This universal control over media means that the world controllers can freely spread propaganda without any question to the legitimacy of the statement's they're spreading.

The Controller laughed. "You're not being very polite to your friend, Mr. Watson. One of our most distinguished Emotional Engineers..."
"But he's right," said Helmholtz gloomily. "Because it is idiotic. Writing when there's nothing to say..."
"Precisely. But that requires the most enormous ingenuity.
