1. Call to Adventure

Peter gets his call to adventure when a small group of bank robbers try robbing a bank with new, high-tech, powerful weapons that he had never seen before. Then, Peter also catches them selling the weapons to a buyer, and knows it is finally his chance to deal with something truly dangerous.

Although Peter is eager to take this opportunity, Tony Stark (Iron-Man) tells Peter to lay low and not pursue the people making/selling the weapons.

3. Answering the Call

After finding a broken off piece of one of the special weapons, Peter gets intrigued and wants to learn more about it to find its source and who is making them, despite what Iron-Man told him to do.

One of the girls on his decathlon team, Liz, is Peter's crush and also happens to be the daughter of the villain, the Vulture.

After lying to Tony Stark about fighting the bad guys on the Ferry, Peter almost ends up failing his little mission, which could have resulted in the death or injury of many innocent people. Iron Man comes to save the day, and is mad at Peter for lying, not being able to trust him, taking away his suit.

13. Ritual Death or Dismemberment

During his fight with the Vulture in what seems to be an empty parking garage, the Vulture destroys all the pillars holding the building up, causing the building to fall on Peter, leading us to believe he was out for the fight or even dead.

14. Atonement with the Father

The father figure in this movie is Tony Stark, who we see reunite with Peter when he needs help saving the ferry, which is where Peter would be fired by Tony. Also they reunite when Peter defeats the Vulture, and Tony offers him a spot back on the Avengers team.

When Peter is under the rubble, with his homemade suit on, he faces his deepest fear which is that he is nothing without Tony Stark’s high-tech suit.

Not wanting to just be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, while laying in the rubble in the parking garage, he finds the strength to escape by overcoming his fears to realize he is more than what Tony or himself may think he is.

Peter actually does the opposite, initially refusing the Tony’s offer to become an official member of the Avengers, choosing to return home to just be that “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”.

19. Crossing the Return Threshold

Despite being in Queens for most of the fighting, Peter returns “home” when we see him back in his regular high school setting with Ned.

20. Master of Two Worlds

Throughout the journey I believe he has conquered his normal life, knowing who his true friends are and living the typical high school life in that aspect, and he also conquered the hero aspect of his life, earning the respect of Tony Stark and learning his true capabilities as Spider-Man.

With the Vulture being caught and stopped, it appears as if Peter will go on with his normal life, with Spider-Man still being that option if it is ever needed, as Tony Stark gave him his suit back at the end of the movie.
