My Childhood: My Why

Growing up I knew I would one day become an educator. As a child, I would force my family and friends to play school with me any time I could. When they would refuse, I would then make my stuffed animals listen to me go on about lessons I most definitely did not understand myself. I always loved the idea of being in charge in the classroom and teaching a student how to understand and do a problem or assignment. I always knew my purpose was to be a leader and help others. I find the most rewarding way to accomplish this, is by teaching young and developing minds.

Growing up, and even to this day, I aspired to be like my Aunt Crystal. She was always organized, hardworking, put together, and loving towards her family. She had a passion for educating and ultimately sparked my passion as well. I would sometimes go visit her in the classroom and she would light up while teaching. She loved her work, and nearly never came up because of a bad day. My Aunt Crystal came from a poor home, like myself, and went all the way to getting her doctorate. She helped me apply for scholarships, look into different programs, and continuously helped me find my way through life and my career. She gives me hope when others say I should give up. She is the reason I am becoming an educator today.

Here and Now: My Current Journey

I have attended the University of Arkansas for almost 2 years now. I have taken multiple education courses to prepare me for my future career. I have also working at a Goldfish Swim School, for three years now, where I am constantly interacting and helping children aged 4 months to 12 years. I also am constantly interacting with, and attempting to make parents happy and comfortable. I believe this is preparing me well for my future endeavors. I also plan to begin substitute teaching soon to get me further in my journey. I am currently applying to the elementary education program, which will prepare me for the elementary environment, and also license me along the way. I have also begun helping and observing classrooms in a few of my classes. I work hard in my classes, while it can be hard to stay motivated and on top of my assignments, while working full time, I try my best every day.
