At midnight the FBI came for his dad. The Christmas tree was still up and they came to his front door knocking for his dad to come with them. Significant Passage: "He had never seen his father leave the house without his hat on before. That was what had troubled him the most. No hat. Analysis: The boy sees his father being taken away by the FBI and what bothers him the most is what the dad was wearing. His SLIPPERS. Analysis: The boy is very concerned about his dads appearance and how he looks. He asks his mother what his dad is wearing. His mother tells him that his dad is wearing the same clothes he left off with and the boy has an uneasy feeling about it.

Because of the stigma and the propaganda that paint the Japanese as these dirty, uncivilized people and it is in full effect for the boy. His dad usually dresses very clean, and he always wears suits and a nice pair of shoes but he is taken away in his bathrobe and slippers. The boy is ashamed that his dad looks like a "typical Japanese" based all the propaganda and the negative connotation
