Characteristics:It has a constant yellow colour throughout the petals of the leaf.It has a weak and thin stem.It also have twisted petals.]]> 2017-10-24 13:59:52 UTC https://padlet.com/gary_jiali_he/4qu1fih594t5/wish/199987674 Reflection gary_jiali_he https://padlet.com/gary_jiali_he/4qu1fih594t5/wish/201392977 I learnt that the characteristics of the parent plant is passed on to the children.Having the den goldmines and den genting fragrance as the parent plant,the children plant should be expected to have a strong stem with a vibrant colour.There is a possibility that it will have twisted petals.During the workshop,i learnt many fun and interesting things.I learnt the parts of the flower,how to transfer pollen from the male plant to the female plant.I also learnt how genetics affects plants.Plants with different parents will have different physical characteristics,such as size,shape.Plants with different parents may also have different structures,such as chloroplast found at the roots,which is different from what you expect.Besides that, i also learnt why the orchid was so important to singapore,and our schools history.I think that the uses of orchid are all very useful.Orchid can be used as a spice in cooking in powder form.This is all very useful to us and the industry,as it will benefit us.]]> 2017-10-28 08:58:02 UTC https://padlet.com/gary_jiali_he/4qu1fih594t5/wish/201392977 Reflection(Day 2) gary_jiali_he https://padlet.com/gary_jiali_he/4qu1fih594t5/wish/203635191 During day 2 of the workshop,we heard that 3 groups were successful during pollination and have achieved a seed pot.This shows that the 2 parents plant are compatible enough,pollen from the anthers has successfully reach the stigma of a flower.However,despite successful pollination,there the seed pot still need to go through the process of germination,which takes 3 months or more.During this time,the plant could die if it is not taken care.In order to increase the chances of survival of the seed pot,we had to carry out certain activities.We had to wash and clean the plant with distilled water.Next we had to submerge it in alcohol.We need to continuously shake it for 10 mins non stop.These helps us remove bacteria present.These steps are all crucial to ensuring the survival of the plant.Without carry out this steps,the bacteria present on the seed pot will not be killed,reducing the survival of the seed pot.Next,we had went into the room next door where there was this machine that sterilise everything in it.These creates an bacteria free condition which is what we need to collect the seeds from the seed pot.This is also to ensure the survival of the seeds as bacteria will reduce the survival rate of the seed.There was tools such as a knife to help us get the seeds.We have to place the seed pot above the flame to remove the hair present.Than the instructor cut open the seed pot.Seed are present in the seed pot.One seed pot contain as many as 100+seeds.Before removing the seeds,the tools needed is heated in the flame,than left to cool for 10 seconds.This could be to remove bacteria present on the tools,but it will be too hot that it will burn the seeds,hence left to cool.After 10 seconds,the tools are used to take the seed s and placed in a small container.These steps must be carried out without any physical contact with us to prevent bacteria. ]]> 2017-11-05 15:05:03 UTC https://padlet.com/gary_jiali_he/4qu1fih594t5/wish/203635191
