1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

The key insights I learned in the lesson learning collaboratively and patient-centered care are treating your patient as if you were related to them, healthcare should be built with trust and lasting relationships for us to deliver the best possible service we can. The rehabilitation team should work hand in hand and communicate effectively for better management of the patient.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

The lessons learned from the topic can be used in both personal and professional life, constant and effective communication can help everyone in planning a better schedule, learn valuable lessons, and understand each other. Building a trustful relationship with each other can also be used in both personal and professional life, this can help in making a new deeper relationship with other people and helps in expressing your emotions better.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As a future physical therapist, my role and responsibilities are to help patients regain the lost motion and strength that they lose due to their conditions. This gives me responsibility for their overall physical health and the responsibility of making sure that they are on a right track toward recovery. I am also responsible for providing relevant information about the patient to the other healthcare providers so that they can provide the best course of action for the patient.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is making sure that all the team members know and understand their roles in the rehabilitation team. This will give the group better harmony and clarity so that their work will not overlap with each other. Having a harmonious relationship will help in creating a safe and enjoyable workplace which will give a better relationship between the other members of the team and their patients.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and
“Patient Centered Care”?

The key insights that I have learned from the sessions on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care” is how interprofessional collaboration practice works and the importance of patient centered care. As a PT student, learning how to collaborate with other health professionals especially those who are also in the rehabilitation field such as OTs, SLPs, and SPSs is important to achieve our goal of giving out the best treatment available to our patients. This can be done through practicing simulations and having dialogues with the other members of the rehabilitation team. With this, patient centered care is also another important factor in giving the best treatment to our patients. We must know how to be sensitive to our patients and be able to make them comfortable. Doing this will enable us to build trust with our patients which will make the progress of the
rehabilitation go smoothly.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

Professionally, I would be able to use what I learned in collaborating with other healthcare professionals in the future. As mentioned in my response on the previous question, interprofessional collaboration is important in giving out the best treatment to our patients. On the other hand, for my personal aspect, I would be able to apply my learnings on the importance of communication when collaborating or interacting with other people, and the importance of being sensitive and caring
in building trust with other people.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen
field?

As a future physical therapist, my role and responsibility are towards restoring the normal movement of our patients. This can be done through different interventions which are mainly in the form of exercises. Our field leans more towards the “physical” or gross motor function side of rehabilitation. Another thing that would be my responsibility would be making sure I collect the necessary and correct information on our patients so that other healthcare professionals, especially those in the rehabilitation team, would also be able to make their treatment plans accordingly.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is important among the members of the team in order for the team to be able to function and work efficiently. Having clear roles will enable us to progress the patient’s rehabilitation smoothly. Another value in having role clarity is that we will be able to give the best treatment to our patients as each member of the team will be able to do what their specialization is in the rehabilitation field. Lastly, role clarity is also important for our patients to not feel that they are undergoing the same treatment over and over again and assure them that what each member of the team is doing is important in their rehabilitation.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

A lesson that I learned from all the lectures and group activities is that
communication is key. This is a skill that is needed in everything we do especially
when working with other individuals in other departments. It allows the seamless
flow of ideas from different perspectives that cumulatively result in a better
outcome. Another would be teamwork, everyone in the group had their own set of
tasks and requirements wherein we all did our parts and even suggested some
ideas to add. Both of these skills can be applied in our future practice as health
professionals have one common goal, which is to provide our patients with the
best treatment they can receive. Lastly, communication and teamwork with the
patient’s family is also important.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

Being a team player and an effective communicator are lessons that I can both
apply personally and professionally. I consider these as key skills that any
individual should possess since it provides the opportunities to learn and grow
together. In the personal aspect, I use these learnings to establish friendships
and relationships with the people around me. I understand that we all have our
differences and that through communication, we get to compromise and achieve a common ground to avoid conflict. In the professional aspect, it is expected that a group of professionals handle one patient. With this, we communicate with one another to address the goals and needs of the patient in a holistic manner.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen
field?

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPS) handle patients across the lifespan to
assess, prevent, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and
swallowing disorders. SLPs provide individualized treatment plans to target
problems in speech, syntax, pragmatics, semantics, phonology, and difficulty in
swallowing. They also work with audiologists to handle patients who are hard of hearing. Lastly, SLPs aim to provide patients with functional speech skills that is
needed in daily living.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is knowing what your area of expertise is and one’s limitations. One
professional cannot address all the needs of a patient as there are many factors
to consider. Role clarity provides accountability and ownership of one’s role in the habilitative care of a patient. It makes the team to effectively and efficiently contribute with regard to their capabilities. Moreover, it aligns the responsibilities of each player in the team to reduce confusion and stress. Lastly, with role clarity, the team is able to provide a holistic approach that targets all aspects of the problem presented.

1. In any team communication and teamwork is the key to success, our group has been constantly communicating with each other to make sure that all our outputs and works are satisfactory. We constantly meet to discuss the outputs and tasks that are assigned to us in order to raise our opinions and clarify questions. The team always made sure that everyone can give their own inputs and ideas so that everyone will be heard and will not feel left out. Having a chance to get to know one another, everyone became relax with each other and started to open towards each other. This also made sure that everyone will feel that they belong to the team making the team more productive. Overall, the team communicate very well and efficiently due to our common goal of providing a quality output.

2. Reflect on practice is important for professionals because this gives them feedbacks about their work and gives them a chance to strive for excellence. This can also help the professional to understand and learn about themselves for the betterment of their practice and personal growth. My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibbs’ reflective cycle because this can be use not only on the professional life but also in our everyday life. The reflective cycle can help us to become a better person by identifying our mistakes and making sure that if the situation happens again, we now know what to do. In the future practice, mistakes can arise from any situation, through this model, we can neutralize any situation that may arise. This will also help in preventing similar problems from occurring again. Having an action plan for future similar situations can help in quickly solving the problem.

1. Communication is essential among members of a team. Effective communication will lead to better teamwork hence better output. In PLA3, a member of our group assigned the number of people tasked to answer a question. Afterward, other members chose a question they liked and collaborated with the person with the same part. The team communicated effectively since all members were able to choose a question and answer it within the deadline. This type of communication works best for us since we have done this method since our first PLA, hence I think our group has great teamwork. However, I think our group can improve on the communication between people with the same parts. To elaborate, since we do our task in our comfortable time and do not answer it simultaneously, some ideas of our members may not be aligned and some may overlap with others. Overall, our group communicated and showed great teamwork in our PLA3 activity.

2. As a future healthcare professional, I understand that practice is very important when we are learning. Reflecting on our practice, what we did well and wrong, can enlighten us on what we have learned, what we must improve on, and what we should do. My favorite model of reflective practice is “The Conscious Competence Learning Model”. This model took my interest since I relate to it. Entering PT, I did not know much about the lectures I was learning, but after a few years, I seem to know more but also not everything. Hence, this model will be relevant in my future practice as well. Studying health conditions is different from handling a real patient, hence I will be exposed to a new environment again where I will not know some things. But after a few months or years after being exposed to patients, I will gain more knowledge and experience and hopefully will be competent in my chosen field. Moreover, in the medical field, there is always something new to learn or experience. Therefore, reflective competence is important to keep up with my future patients to provide them with the best care.

1. An effective communication is necessary in any team to be able to be successful in their endeavors. Without proper communication, it will be impossible to delegate tasks among members and solve problems that may arise. In relation to our PLA 3, as what our group usually does during our outputs, we divide the parts among us to be able to ensure that each has a contribution. This makes it easier for us to accomplish our tasks since the parts are equally divided and we get to choose which we are most comfortable answering. We also set an internal deadline so that we have time to review each other’s answers and make sure that we all agree on the answers of our co-members. This method has been proven to be effective for our team which is why it has been a routine for us in every assessment to do the same. Though effective, I believe that our group can improve on being more proactive in reminding each other about our deadlines to assure that we all meet the internal deadlines we have set. Upon reflecting about our PLA 3 using the What? So what? Now what? Reflection Model, I realized that we had developed a good dynamics within our team which is the sole reason why we are successful in our tasks but there are still things we can improve on to make our work more efficient.

2. Reflecting on practice is essential especially for us future healthcare professionals as it allows us to think about our past actions and decisions regarding our day to day practice and how these affect not only ourselves but more so our patients and clients. Aside from this, it serves as an opportunity for us to determine what areas we can improve on to better our practice. My favorite model is the Gibbs Reflective Cycle because it can be easily applied in our daily activities and it seemed the most useful among the other models. As said in the lecture, this model targets a specific event that transpired in our day which allows us to reflect more deeply regarding such. That said, I can apply this model in my future practice in instances wherein I feel like I made an incorrect decision that may have did more harm to my patient than good. When utilizing this model, I must first understand and describe what happened, and navigate through all my feelings whether positive or negative. From here, I can then identify the good and bad experiences from the event in order for me to analyze and rationalize what occurred and eventually create ideas on how to improve or what to change in the future. Hence, having this kind of thought process during my future practice enables me to become reactive in my experiences which likewise allows the honing of my skills and increases my adaptability for unforeseen situations that I may encounter.

1. The importance of having proper communication with the group in every activity is always prominent. I liked how we are all open to suggestions and made sure that we are comfortable sharing our thoughts and opinions about every topic that we are discussing. It should be noted that there should be a balance between listening and talking which was displayed in our activities. By having a clear interaction with the group, we were able to proceed with our activities in an efficient manner. It is also evident on how we are improving by applying different principles while interacting with each other. By reflecting on our past experiences especially in our face-to-face interactions, we were able to become a better team by understanding more about each other. Something that we can improve upon is on how we were not able to fully convey our ideas to the team leading to some misconceptions. This can then be further improved and focused on with our next activity in order to provide a better output.

2. By reflecting on our practice we can further improve upon our learnings by identifying and appreciating the experiences that we had. By doing this we can then use it to process the activities and apply it next time we need them. My favorite model of reflective process is the Gibb’s Reflective Cycle. From the name itself, it is a cycle wherein we get to input our thoughts on each step of the process. Each stage has its own description and questions that we can answer that will help us in reflecting better about a certain situation. We can use this in our future practice by using it as a guide on how we can break down our experiences. This can help us improve our performance as it is happening but also use it to improve our future practices with proper reflection. It is not sufficient to just experience things and learn from them. It is also beneficial to reflect upon it in order to fully understand and allow new and past situations to to be tackled more effectively in the future.

1. Proper communication was key to achieve all of the activities and served as the crutch on how these activities would be accomplished. It is through this form of communication that the group was able to understand one another and properly perform all the tasks required in the activity, dividing it amongst ourselves and figuring out how to properly tackle it. The team communicated through suggestions, sharing our thoughts about the things we'd be handling and the best course of action. It was through this open and clear conversations that we were able to efficiently accomplish the activity without hassle. With all of this now finished it would then be important to begin reflecting on this experience in order for the team to have a better understanding about each other. Open reflection one thing that we could improve is being completely open in our communication (i.e. being open to all suggestions) as being able to completely speak out our mind would've helped immensely in combating potential miscommunication or having potential beneficial ideas or suggestions that could've been brushed aside.

2. Reflecting on our practice serves as a means to gain insight on all of the right and wrong decisions made and how it should be properly handled moving forward, such as what areas am I struggling in and should focus on improving. The focus here being what actions we did that may benefit or harm not only ourselves but our clients. To that end that is why I'd say that my favorite model of reflective process is the Gibb’s Reflective Cycle. The model focuses on learning and planning from experiences that either went well or did not, being able to be used on repeated experiences due to it being a cycle. It goes through stages as well, each of which being points of reflection in it of itself as well. Describing the experience, expressing one's feelings about it, evaluation whether it was good or bad, an analysis to understand the situation, a conclusion of what has been learned, and an action plan on how to deal with it in the future. The strength of this model and the reason I like it is due to the very introspective nature of it, how it focuses heavily on reflection of every little aspect of a situation that has been experienced, allowing one to have a deeper reflection of these experiences as well as a concrete resolution on improving. As an OT we are faced with various clients with varying conditions and needs, meaning to say that not all experiences are the same, so through the Gibb's Reflective Cycle I'd be able to go through each of these experiences and have a better point of learning from them in order to improve myself moving forward.

1. Indeed proper communication and effective teamwork play a great role in achieving goals. This was evident during our synergy activity where we had to accomplish various activities in hopes of trying to win the game. During the tasks, we learned and went through obstacles and contradicting ideas which led to unfavorable outcomes; we lost some activities. Despite having hurdles, the group has learned how to be a better team in terms of communication. This includes that in a group, all members should be in unison and agree on one plan on how to approach a task which ensures that everyone is on the same page regarding knowing the delegated task of each person.

In any task or paper that our group has to accomplish, we make sure to set a meeting time where everyone is free so that everyone is oriented on what to do. Most of the time, we also have minutes of the meeting for those members who are not able to attend; this allows everyone to be guided even if we are not able to meet synchronously. What went well is the different practices that we were able to employ in order to submit quality outputs on time. Moreover, our team still has a lot of room for improvement to make our team dynamics more effective and efficient.

2. By reflecting on one’s practice, an individual is able to learn new abilities, which enhances skills to adapt to difficulties, make quick decisions, control emotions, and handle stress. For healthcare professionals, it considers our previous experiences and decisions to arrive at the best approach for our clients. The Gibbs Reflective Cycle is my favorite since it explores different stages of experience, specifically description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan. It is a cycle where after the action plan, you go back to your experiences and repeat the cycle. It takes into account multiple factors to ensure a proper conclusion. I like this model because it takes up a lot of insight and reflection on a given situation which may be used when in practice. A deeper understanding of these thoughts and experiences may give us the understanding that people have different opinions and beliefs. Using this model, I get to think hard about how to approach every individual considering the many differences we have, Lastly, I can use this model to ultimately improve on myself as I get to revise and change the wrong learnings that I have.

1. The PLA3 was done as a reflection of our synergy activity, and from it, we were able to discuss amongst ourselves the importance of teamwork and communication. To efficiently accomplish our tasks we must work together as one to achieve the goals of the given tasks. Constant and effective communication is needed for us to align our goals and create a strategy to achieve these goals. During the accomplishment of the different tasks, the team communicated by delegating the tasks to one another and openly sharing our expectations of one another in the parts assigned to them. One of the things that went well during the said tasks was the member’s openness to each other’s suggestions. This helped us align our goals and achieve them accordingly. Although there were some misunderstandings, we were able to address them immediately. Becoming effective communicators helped us produce quality outputs. However, it was observed that our way of accomplishing our tasks was inefficient. It took us a long time to accomplish the activity. Using the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al. (2001), the reason for this is that we fail to set reasonable internal deadlines. This is due to our difference in schedules and workload since the group members come from different departments. But, this can be addressed by gathering the schedules of each member and plotting our internal deadlines within the common free time that we have. With this, our efficiency in accomplishing our tasks will improve.

2. Reflective practice is the critical and deliberate inquiry into professional practice. We do this to reflect on the effect of our actions during practice, as well as reflect on how we act towards our clients and colleagues. This is needed so that we can see things in perspective and analyze what went wrong or right during our practice. It prevents us from making the same mistakes and helps us continue doing what was deemed to be effective. Moreover, a reflective practice also promotes research. Therefore, as allied health professionals, this is done so that we are up to date with the different developments in our fields that we can utilize in our practice. Overall, reflective practice is done to criticize and appraise the methods and techniques we use and further hone our skills to provide our clients with the optimal care that we can give. With this, we can utilize the models of reflective practice in our work as this can serve as guides for us to improve our practice. My favorite model of reflective practice is the Conscious Competence Learning Model. This model describes an individual’s journey when learning, starting from unconscious incompetence to reflective competence. As we learn new concepts, we start from the unconscious incompetence level wherein we are unaware of the knowledge and skill that we may acquire, in other words, we are naive. Learning begins at the level of conscious incompetence. At this level, we start to gain awareness of what we know and what we don’t. After determining this, we practice the area or skill we are least knowledgeable of and start to strive towards competence in that area. This happens at the level of conscious competence. With enough practice, we move on to the level of unconscious competence wherein the area or skill becomes second nature to us. Lastly, we achieve the highest level which is reflective competence, wherein we are mature enough to reflect on our previous experiences in the area or in using the skill and know how we can improve on it. This highest level is called reflective competence. This is my favorite model as it teaches us that we shouldn’t stop at the mastery of a skill. Rather, we should criticize and reflect on this skill to improve more. I can apply this model in my future practice especially when it comes to mastering therapy techniques. When we learn a new therapy technique we must aim to achieve reflective competence. As we know, therapy techniques change over time, thus it is not enough that we master these techniques. We should also reflect to know what can still be improved in that technique and research for new strategies we may apply.

1. Communication plays a great role when it comes to collaboration; it is the essence of teamwork. During the small activities given, our team both experienced obstacles and triumph as a result from our small wins and losses. What did not work out in our team was the fact that we have not established one goal to complete the activities. Henceforth, our team could have developed a unified goal and formulated better strategies first before diving into the activities. Although, we as a team, have cooperated well and had good distribution of tasks during the tasks. In conclusion, there are different factors that contribute to teamwork which includes cooperation and good communication- this comes down to the strategies of the team to work as one in order to efficiently work together.

2. A reflective practice allows an individual to monitor and evaluate his or her progress in their occupational performance. More so with healthcare practitioners like us, a reflective practice is important since we deal with different people on a regular basis. This would allow us to keep an open mind, and evaluate ourselves as a practitioner if we are keeping a good professional relationship with our clients. Moreover, my favorite model of reflective practice would be Gibbs Reflective Cycle as I believe this is an easier and more efficient way of reflecting in our practice as practitioners. It said to target an event that happened in your day (e.g. in the workplace, at home, relation with the other practitioners, etc.), where we reflect on the actions or response we made on that particular event. It also explores stages of experience such as description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion, and action plan. What I like the most about this model is how it includes an action plan where you may directly apply on your daily life instead of it being a mere reflection. To utilize this model, I believe I get to reflect on my values as an individual as I reflect on the experience that I had in that particular event. For example, I would get to utilize this when it comes to clinical reasonings to clients with cases that may affect ethical principles of our healthcare practice. I would get to see the mistakes I have made during rotations and hence, would be able to create an action lan to better myself in the future. Moreover, with this model, I also get to improve myself- not only as a practitioner, but also as an individual of society.

1. Communication and teamwork are vital parts in creating the ideal team. These two are important in ensuring that work is not only done properly and accurately, but also efficiently. Without these two, a team wouldn’t function well and would lead to low quality outputs. The difference of having these two traits in teams was even shown in one of the videos during the Synergy activity wherein there was a team pushing a cart with no teamwork, and in the other hand a team doing the same thing but with teamwork. It was very evident as to which team functioned better and had more efficient work. As for how our team communicates, what we first did was we distributed the items that are needed to be answered in the PLA 3 to all the members. Afterwards we set a deadline for accomplishing our own assigned tasks and we also assigned a person that can check afterwards for formatting and grammatical errors. This works well for us as we can guarantee that the distribution of tasks is fair, and we can also accomplish our parts in our own time. On the other hand, what I think didn’t go well was that because we are doing our parts asynchronously, ideas sometimes do not lineup well or has inconsistencies and internal deadlines are not met. These problems can be solved by us having more communication especially between members working on the same items and having constant reminders in our group chats of our internal deadlines. However, overall, I think our group functions well which had led us to always being able to accomplish our tasks.

2. Reflection on practice is important for us to know what we are lacking or what we have done wrong and could have done better. It is only through this that we can further improve ourselves and make us better and more competent professionals. Reflection allows us to see especially more from like a different perspective on us doing our practice which will allow us to where there is room for improvement. My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb’s Reflective Cycle. The reason for this is because while it has 6 stages, it is actually very straightforward. It is basically a step-by-step process in how to reflect on something which I think makes as it really good as a reflective model as it is makes it easier to process and reflect on things. It can also be applied not only to reflection as a professional, but also on a more personal level.

1. Knowing that it was our first face-to-face meeting as a group, it was a bit hard for most of us to interact with one another. Though there were times we struggled, all of us were open to each other’s ideas and were humble enough to listen to others’ knowledge when we were strategizing. During the synergy, there was an activity where we needed to build the highest and sturdiest tower using a limited number of resources. I can say that teamwork was seen because all of us have contributed ideas on how to make the base of the tower more stable and at the same time, as high as possible. Even though our tower is not higher than the other group’s tower, the activity made us more comfortable with each other. However, there are things that still needs to be improved in terms of effective communication and collaboration that are salient in coming up solutions. There were activities that challenged us because we have not established our roles in our group. For example, there was an activity where in we needed to create the longest chain without talking to each other. We were not able to come up with strategies immediately, that is why we were not able to discuss who will cut the papers and who will assemble them. With this, in coming up with strategies and solutions, we should first establish the roles of each member, so that each member would be able to contribute effectively.
2. Reflecting on our practice is a way for us to determine the impact of our performance and behaviors when we interact with our clients and colleagues. With this, it would give us an idea about the things that we still need to improve on. For example, if there are instances when we do not assess the progress of our athletes, reflecting will help us realize the negative impact on such act and will remind us to recognize the importance of assessing of our athletes to induce progress on their performance and prevent stagnation. Furthermore, my favorite model of reflective practice would be the Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle. It is a framework that would examine one’s experiences that would allow one to learn and plan from those experiences. It comprises of six stages namely, description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. This stage would help one describes what she or he did, know what one feels about it, evaluate the good and bad of it, analyze it by focusing on the details behind it, make conclusions based on what happened, and respond to the conclusion one made.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

The most important learning that I was able to obtain upon working on the activities for this course is that: even though we are different professionals who have different tasks, lessons, and learnings from our specific courses, collaborative learning is still very important and in fact, this is what is observed even in work institutions. Because even though we have differences, patient-centered care will still prevail and this entails us to work together to strive to provide the best care that we can give to the patient, and that will be done through collaborative planning and treatment.

I also realized how important the first activity was (self-introduction and sharing 3 dilemmas encountered) because through that activity, I was able to gauge and know my groupmates a little. It was important because I saw a glimpse of their personality and it helped me on how I can communicate with them during groupworks. This reflects how important it is to know your workmates and build good relationships with them especially during work.

2. In which areas, personal or professional, will I use what I learned?

These learnings would definitely be useful in both personal and professional aspects of my life because in this course, my social skills have been challenged. I will use these learnings to be more open to people and their ideas, their criticisms and their experiences. I will be open minded to any suggestions from other people because this is vital in the professional aspect where we apply multidisciplinary interventions to provide care to the client. I will know my limitations in my knowledge but at the same time, have the courage to share my thoughts and opinions on specific matters. In relation to what was mentioned, one of the aspects of the activities in this course that had me a hard time was in developing client care ideas. Interventions are not limited to what is seen in books and is what was taught in the classrooms, but the reality of it is that we have to use our imagination in applying these techniques. That is why when there are questions that require us to formulate interdisciplinary activities for the clients, it is a little challenging given that we still have no experience on this. However, as early as now, I will improve on this so that I will be able to do it well in the future.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As physical therapists, we are responsible for the reacquiring or developing the gross motor movements of the patients/clients after an injury, or for general well being of the patients. We are tasked to formulate exercises for them that will target their

weaknesses so that as they come out of the clinics, their health and condition will be better. We are also responsible for continuing education, in research and in promoting the health education of the people, through ceaseless study so that we can develop or discover new intervention techniques that will help our patients.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

From one of our previous activities, we had an idea that in some incidents there will be overlap in the tasks of the members of the IPE team; in such that the interventions that they apply are repeated. This is where the value of the role of clarity comes in because when a professional knows what his goals for the patients are, then that is the reason why he is performing the intervention. Knowing your roles will let you identify your limits and when you are needed by the team.

In any collaborative project, effective communication and teamwork are key. Team members will be better able to work together to accomplish a common objective when they can communicate with one another efficiently. We are able to converse well before the synergy, but there is a sense of tension and discomfort in our interactions. Our group is able to collaborate professionally while simultaneously starting brief talks about daily life or education. This has aided in establishing trust and rapport between us over time. This makes it easier for us to lead meetings, share knowledge, and work together to complete tasks.

It was our first time meeting in person, therefore during the Synergy exercise it was a little difficult for our group to get along with one another. Most of the things we did that day kept us from talking to each other while we were playing. Each game was limited to a particular number of players. This required us to make full use of all of our resources and to plan extensively in order to complete the task at hand. We took the initiative and kept our attention on the same goal, which allowed us to communicate and work together. Since we are all responsible for the outcomes of our work, we each made sure to give every game our all while still having fun. This experience helped our group get to know one another better. Since we will soon be dealing with actual customers and must collaborate in the same way that rehabilitation professionals would, we now have a better awareness of our unique personalities, skills, and weaknesses, which we can apply to our impending jobs during this transitional period.

This experience made me more aware of my progress in teamwork as well as my areas for improvement. I can better understand and assess my personal growth and aspiration to become a rehabilitation professional by reflecting on my performance in our Synergy activity. This shows how important it is for me to routinely reflect on my job since it allows me to digest and learn from my own experiences.

1. Reflect on the importance of communication and teamwork in your own IPE group after completing PLA3. How did the team communicate? What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

Most of the activities that we did during the synergy, I, and even my groupmates, would agree that we had good teamwork. It was good that most of us had inputs while some listened and also gave suggestions on how we can improve the idea that others gave. We were all open-minded to new suggestions and also hands-on on making the plans happen. It was most observed during the activity of chain making that we were able to execute tasks by helping each other, however, its was also there that improvements could be made. Specifically, planning. All in all, I can apsay that my group exemplifies good teamwork, even in our previous outputs.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Gibbs’ model of reflective practice would be the most relevant to me because as I analyze myself, this is what I do most of the time. Upon encountering any dilemma or challenge, I immerse on my feelings about it and this is where I also think about my action plan. Then finally, I execute this action plan. This is very important because as future professionals, we must always reflect on our performance and analyze if we are able to serve our patients and clients well, or if we are able to provide them the care that they deserve to obtain a better lifestyle. Moreover, constant reflective and change is vital in pur profession to also improve techniques and practices.

What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

In a team, members will be better able to collaborate and work together to accomplish a common objective more quickly when they can communicate clearly with one another. A team that communicates well can exchange ideas, carry out initiatives, and work together more effectively. As a group, we ensure that every of the deliverables are achieved when we plan how to properly execute them which is why we make sure to at least meet one another in a Zoom meeting. During the zoom call, we will talk about what the activity is in order for us to have a clear and common understanding on what we will do. In addition, we distribute tasks based on our potential in such a way that each and every member of the team will confidently contribute their work. If there is one thing that we can improve on how the group communicates is how we manage our deliverables since there was an incident that the group almost forgot to pass an activity. I think with regards to this matter we should assign people on checking and passing the output as well as setting an internal deadline so that we will not cram on the day of the submission.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

As a future speech language pathologist, we best reflect on our practice when we get to experience them personally especially when we are working with different professionals in our field. The importance of reflecting in our practice is for us to experience success and failure in order for us to learn from it. We all know that our best teacher in life is our experience which will make us responsible for improving and deepening our understanding of our practice. In line with this, we can use the Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle model that emphasizes the need to reflect and think about what we have experienced and to learn from that experience. This model can help us in the future when we handle cases that we may have overlooked. We cannot deny that along our journey as a therapist we will get to experience mistakes whether in diagnosing or treating a patient. With this model, we can apply our experience from it by describing the incident, what we felt when we committed the act, evaluate the action, analyze the situation on why it happen, make a conclusion or decide other options, and lastly, create a solution.
