He was born in 1841 in the town of Prades, in the Crown of Aragon, today province of Tarragona. Possibly he studied music in Barcelona with Joan Castelló. In December 1522 he began working in the Cathedral of Lérida, first as a singer and, from September 1523 until October 1525, as Kapellmeister. It is believed that later moved to Guadalajara , in the service of the Duke of Infantado Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, where he worked six years.

Some indication suggest that that later to Valencia, where he assumed the direction of the chapel of the Duke of Calabria, or a the least, was linked with musical estates of this city. In fact, at least three of his works appear in the songbook linked the the chapel (Son of the Duke of Calabria, also known as Cancionero de Upsala).

After, he moved to Sigüenza, where he was also choirmaster. Perhaps from 1537 to 1539. From 1544 to 1548 he would hold the same position at the castle of Arévalo, in the chape, of the Princesses Mary and Joan of Castile, the two Felipe II's younger sisters.

Later, he became a monk and entered the Cristercian Order, residing in the Monastery of Poblet, who finally would die in 1553.

This composition is one of the most famous of Mateo Flecha. It mixes some styles and metrics in this composition. We can see that the notes aren´t neither very high nor very low which makes a medium notes sound.
