Your Goal

Translate, not replicate, the spaghetti and marshmallow challenge for online learning. How would you put this activity online?

Bring it back to your learners and their goals...
Choose one audience

For elementary school students to practice working hard at something even when it's tough and to support each other's efforts.

For business school students to practice working in a team to complete a challenge as an introduction to more formal training in teamwork.

For college students to practice applying structural engineering principles in an intro college-level course.

Tech Restrictions

Assume that you will have any tech available at NEIT or any other freely available online tool that you know of. You cannot assume that you have a developer to build you a custom product or a budget to buy tools.

Capture the Emotion and Energy
To capture the essence of an activity when you move it online, you need to think beyond the practicalities and learning goals. Often, there are social goals as well. This activity should be fun! It should bring people together! Don't discount these features just because you're moving it online.

Hint: You can ditch the spaghetti and marshmallows altogether if you want to. Remember, putting something online is an act of translation--not an act of replication.

What are we building? What will it apply to? Legos, puzzles, group activity. PLAY elements are helpful - kids don't have "adult" filters. Loosen people up - there are no wrong answers.

Something to build - design something and put it together with others. Design a learning game or games?

Question to address: what's the best way to learn something? What is it?

Presentation or display table, What is the measurable result? there has to be some kind of result.
