I am just stepping off the train in Bath on my way home from a bustling day spent in London, when my phone goes off. It's the Chief of Police with an urgent matter that needs to be looked into immediately. I pull my long blonde hair back into a bun and wrap my trench coat tightly around my waist as I bravely step out into the rain. Clearly this was not the day to wear heels.

My Uber pulls up to iron gates that have been taped off with yellow crime tape. Once I cross the tape and head inside this monster of a mansion, the Chief explains to me that someone has died. Duke Wellington of Bath is dead at the young age of 35. In his bedroom there is a silver tray and broken bowls on the ground. Once warm soup now splayed across the hardwood floor to meet the body. I see him laying on the ground of his bedroom in an anything but peaceful position. All of his muscles are extremely tense, his back is in a fixed arched position, he has a creepy grin on his face with his brown eyes turned red from the hemorrhaging of blood vessels. This in my opinion is a vicious attack on a man. Poison. Strychnine...probably.

If this was poison that killed the Duke, it was fast and targeted the nerves. The Duke could not have eaten it as it would have taken much to long to take effect. This substance was inhaled. If it were inhaled then why did no one else become effected? There must be traces of it elsewhere on the property. I must also wait for the coroners report which will either back up my hunch or disprove it.

The Duke was beyond wealthy, but he was not a kind soul. His maid turnover was consistent as his bank account showed new payment records to different women every 2-3 years. Should probably check in with old employees too.

The Duke was found by his butler who goes by the name Mason. Mason has been a loyal employee of the Duke's family for generations and lives on the property. Mason is at the ripe age of 70.

The maid, Nancy, called the police when she heard the disruption from upstairs. She is a rather new employee to estate and appears older than her age.

The Groundskeeper is named Perry and he had been taking care of the grounds for about 15 years. Strange man as they go. Kept looking around as if he was seeing things that others could not.

My first interrogation is with the Mason, the butler. He had been there the longest and known the Dukes family the most. Why didn't he check on the Duke sooner? Had he heard anything from upstairs? Did the Duke have any enemies?

Next, I spoke with Perry. The Duke and him were outside spraying some weeds with pesticides. The Duke said he wasn't well so he went inside. Strychnine is more commonly found in vermin traps and pesticides.

Finally, I spoke with Nancy, the young maid. When was the last time you saw the Duke? Had he mentioned feeling ill before helping Mason? Had he ever hurt or touched you inappropriately?

I did some digging of my own into the past maids that the Duke employed. Turns out he had a total of 11 maids including Nancy, since he took over the estate at 18 years of age.

Many of the women filed sexual harassment/ violence cases against him. Now in the 21st century most of these files contained photographs of these women who suffered a multitude of injuries over the course of their employment with the Duke.

Perry was an ex-heroin addict who got clean 18 years ago and he was lucky enough to find a job with the Duke, who may have had some misgivings himself.

The Duke had to inhale this poison and all the witnesses said he felt ill after spraying plants outside. I head straight for the gardening shed and inside I find a spray canister. I am careful to hold my breath as I take a swab of the inside and carefully place it into a bag. I rush this through forensics for a positive match of Strychnine. My hunch was right.

The Chief told me I should look into the disturbing family past of Nancy as he hands me a a thick file.

The evidence points to Perry, he was spraying the plants when the Duke fell ill and the Strychnine was found in the spray canister. But, why would he do this? He has no real motive. He may be a recluse middle aged man who thinks he sees ghosts but why poison his boss.

The Butler is out, he was truly in a state of distress during the interrogation as he had known the Duke his whole life.

Nancy. She is new and didn't know the Duke well. Her family history said otherwise. According to our police records, Nancy's aunt worked for the Duke about 10 years ago. She was the only maid who didn't file charges against the Duke, but she quit and later committed suicide. This could be motivation. Nancy blamed the Duke for her aunt's suicide and wanted revenge.

With a strong motive reasoning backing Nancy, we had a search warrant for her small apartment not far from the estate. There we found hundreds of store bough vermin poisoning pellet bags in the trash. A fine silky powder was all that was left of these poisonous Strychnine pellets. This was enough evidence for the police to know with full confidence that Nancy had indeed murdered Duke Wellington of Bath.
