The sentences in a presentation should not be more than 6 to 8 words, and if using bullet points, only have 6 words in a line. The presentation should also not have too many colors on a slide, and you should limit yourself to only using 4 colors for a graphic, table, etc. Avoid using graphics that are flashy and distracting so that it does not take away from the information.
7 rules for PowerPoint Simplicity - apply something called the "billboard" test to your slide, ask yourself if people could read this while driving. Also use the one minute test, if it takes the audience more than 60 seconds to read, it is too complex or hard to understand. Another thing to keep in mind is that you do not want have your slide look messy with many pictures, keep it clean.
