He was born in Germany and emigrated to England as a teenager. He was the youngest son of Johann Jakob Astor. &nbsp; John worked as a musical instrument manufacturer.&nbsp; John was the wealthiest man in the country at the time, He died in 1848. At his death, his fortune was estimated to be about 20 Million, The bulk of which went to his son William Back house Astor. Driven to succeed, John Jacob Astor built a family and a fortune that became a part of American History.</div>]]></description>

He moved with his family to Iowa in 186 where he taught school and studied law at Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1862, he traveled west to become a miner. He is generally acknowledged as the first major investment banker in the United States and creator of the first wire house film. Cooke was born at Sandusky, Ohio, The son of Eleutheros Cooke and Martha Carswell Cooke. Eleutheros Cooke was a pioneer ohio lawyer and whig, a member of the Ohio General assembly and member of congress from Ohio in 1831-1833.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Charles Crocker was an american railroad executive who founded the central pacific railroad, which constructed the westernmost portion of the first transcontinental railroad, and took control with partners of the southern pacific railroad. He was born in Troy, New York, Crocker was the son of Eliza and Isaac Crocker, a modest family. They joined the nineteenth-century migration west and moved when he was 14 to Indiana, Where they had a farm. Crocker soon beame independent, working on several Farms, a sawmill, and at an iron forge. At the age of 23 in 1845, he founded a small, independent iron forge of his own. He used money saved from his earnings to invest later in the New railroad business after moving to California, which had become a boom state since the Gold Rush. He died August 14, 1888, Monterrey, CA.</div>]]></description>
