Mostly because the child seemed to have no idea he was supposed to be posing for the photo. I also really enjoyed the fact that he brought his pets. It's pretty typically of a child to want to bring either their animals or toys to take pictures. When I traveled to St Augustine Florida this summer I learned that women during this time period (at least in Florida) were legally not allowed to ride bicycles like the men.
