For my future nursing practices, I will apply one of the competency standards from Domain 7 namely Practice po 7 which states that Clinicians should speak clearly, they should use plain English, and should explain complex concepts and terminology to enhance the person's understanding. For me, the most relevant aspect of the competency standard was to take responsibility for explaining complex concepts and terminology to the migrant and refugee background patients, and not expect the interpreter to simplify or explain those. Having learned about sexual and reproductive health matters by a certain descriptive vocabulary, employing terms and certain descriptions of intimate body parts. I now feel that I am more capable of caring for patients of a different culture or background than me. This skill will be essential to me in the workplace as it's going to make me more responsible for making refugee and migrant background patients comfortable enough to have a conversation with me about their sensitive health issues. So that I will be able to provide health suggestions and treatment to them.

Culturally responsive clinical practice: working with people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
Social Determinants that Affect Refugees Health:

According to WHO, Social Determinants that can have an adverse impact on migrants or refugees arriving in Australia are as follows:

Education:
According to Australian Statistics, 45% of young people in Australia are either first or second-generation migrants. Newly arrived students from migrant and refugee backgrounds face more challenges related to learning a new language and navigating a new culture and social system. Hence, low levels of education among refugees and immigrant background people make them fall easily sick to many chronic diseases due to a lack of health literacy knowledge in comparison to other Australian populations.

Unemployment and Job Insecurity:
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), revealed that 23.5% of Australia's Unemployed population came from those backgrounds where English is not the primary language. Hence, unemployment and job insecurity directly impact migrants and refugees as they are unable to have any source of income to survive in Australia which leads to poverty and many more health inequalities that directly impact refugees' physical as well as mental health.

Access to affordable health services of decent quality (WHO 2022):
Refugee and migrant children especially unaccompanied minors are more likely to experience stressful situations such as abuse and unequal access to health care services. Equal access to health services in humanitarian settings is complicated by shortages of medicines and lack of healthcare which directly affects refugee health and increases the risk of getting diagnosed with serious health issues.

Education and students from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
