There will be chaos. Everybody will commit crimes as they will not take the consequences seriously. They will do whatever they want as they will not receive life-ruining punishments. They do things to boost their short-term achievements. E.g. commit tax fraud to make more money. Even if they are caught, they will not receive severe punishments which will then lead them to repeating their actions.

If justice is not ensured in society, this will cause more crimes to surface because people would find the consequences from these acts to be mild and would not dissuade them that it is a very serious crime . This would mean singapore would become a not very safe countries with its rules being very weak and mild and no one would want to obey to them. In my opinion, I do not agree with the decision to shame him publicly on social media. Even though his actions should be criticised and punished, I dont think that he should be bullied/doxxed. Neither do I think that his parents should have been brought into the arguement either. I feel like a punishment and an apology would be enough, and I feel that the online harrassment towards him is extremely unnecessary.

No. I take a couple of issues with this approach. I can't find the original instagram story so this first point is mostly tentative.

I can't imagine a way for Monica to have publicly provided substantial evidence against Nicholas at the very beginning. Obviously, as time progressed and NUS started catching more flak, this changed, but let's play the devil's advocate.

Let's say, hypothetically, in some alternate timeline, Nicholas was actually innocent and Monica was just falsely accusing him with no evidence. Is the lynch mob fair in this scenario?
Obviously not, and a young man's life has been ruined because of the hasty action of a mob acting on no evidence.

But that's just for the beginning. Obviously, there is substantial evidence against him now.

Even still, I don't think it's the right way to go about things.
Vigilante justice is hardly ever the right way to go about things.

Yes, there wasn't enough done to punish him. Yes, NUS and the legal system should have done more. But that's the problem. It's NUS and the system. Nicholas can't control how much punishment he's given. He could deeply seek the death penalty and still not be given it.
Harassing him does nothing other than fuel your sense of justice and righteousness. If you want to get things done, go harass NUS and the government.

The netizens should have been more considerate about not sharing his private information and criticising online. The victim shared the story on social media to tell about the event. The netizens should have NEVER interfered with a personal matter that they were not part of. Cyber bullying is very bad and criticising and ostracising him is not the right thing to do because it would make him feel worse even if he perhaps had turned over a new leaf. The emotional scar from these mean comments and share would always be there.
