He later became a banker with socialist leanings and taught at the Working Men's College.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Crystallography was started in 1912 by Max von Laue and a group of colleagues. Crystallography studies the structure and properties of crystals. It also deals with the arrangement and bonding of atoms in crystalline solids. They used what they found in crystals to determine the arrangement of atoms and find things that are taught in many other sciences. The people in this science can figure out the atomic structure of anything. This is the field that Franklin had used that helped her discover Photograph 51.</p><p><br/></p><p>If you were to try and explain what crystallography was to a 10-year-old you would probably say something like, "crystallography tells us what makes crystals the way they are which helps us figure out other stuff around us."</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Biochemistry was happening for a while but the name was coined in 1903 by Carl Neuber. It is said the sirehood of biochemistry is Claude Bernard. Biochemistry is the study of chemical processes and substances that happen in living organisms. In simple terms, it is a mix of chemistry and biology.</p><p><br></p><p>If you were to try and explain what biochemistry was to a 10-year-old you would probably say something like, "biochemistry tells us what is happening in us and how we are who we are."</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Photograph 51 is Rosalind Franklin's most famous work. What this photo did was show that DNA was a double helix. Rosalind Franklin’s work is important because it is one of the major pieces that is used in biology sciences. She had found something that people teach to kids and it shows an important thing. She had taken a picture of it but was not fully credited to it at first. </p><p><br/></p><p>Without Franklin taking that picture we wouldn't have known that DNA is a double helix and that would play a part in how people would learn about DNA. Her work really helped people who do research on DNA.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Work with Carbons and Coals</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Franklin did work with carbons and coals to try and understand their microstructures. </p><p><br/></p><p>She wrote a thesis called “The physical chemistry of solid organic colloids with special reference to coal”. In this, she was able to classify coals and accurately predict their performance for fuel purposes and for the production of wartime devices such as gas masks.</p><p><br/></p><p>Since she was crystallographic, she did other work in it. She did a lot of work with discovering the structures of different carbons. The work she did by revealing the structures of different carbons laid the groundwork for new industrial uses of carbon and helped the development of heat-resistant materials.</p>]]></description>
