Since Europeans were more advanced, they believed that it was right for them to control "weaker" nations, which is the idea of Darwinism. When Europeans take control of these smaller nations, they take resources to help their own economy. They also try to force religion and culture on the natives which is harmful to the natives. The Europeans do this without caring for the Natives, and being selfish by taking everything.

The reasons were understandable, but they went too far with it by murdering Europeans and Christian missionaries and burning/looting cities. They believed they could do all of this because they think Africa is weak, and they can't do anything about. This ties into Darwinism because it's the belief that it's okay for stronger nations to take over weaker nations. The Europeans also forced their religion and culture onto the African natives, because they thought the weren't civilized for not being Christian.

The Age of Imperialism does deserve a bad rap because of all the things they did to other "weaker" nations. The goals of imperialism are political, economic, and social. The intentions are okay but the results never were. Most political goals were to introduce new ideas for new forms of government, to secure land and power, conquer land, and to build military outposts and bases. There was also something called Darwinism. Darwinism is the belief that it is only natural for larger and stronger nations to conquer and take control of smaller and weaker nations. All of these beliefs and goals led those stronger nations to conquer and take control of the weaker nations. These stronger nations would go to the weaker nations and they would take the natural resources that the land has just to help their own economy, which harms the natives economy since their resources are being taken from them. Social goals weren't any less harmful. These social goals included the White Man's burden. The White Man's burden was the belief that it is the Europeans job to educate natives about Christianity, which they thought would "civilize" them. It was all forced onto them. The political cartoon I looked at which shows the White Man's burden. In the picture, there is an American carrying a native to a school house. The fact the the American is carrying the native just shows that they did not have a choice. These weaker nations could not do anything about, but it still does not make it right for bigger nations to go and invade the smaller ones. Imperialism also led to rebellions against it like the the boxers during the Spheres of influence. During that time, Europeans were starting to take over a lot of what China gained profit from. Chinese nationalists saw this as invading and wanted it to stop. The boxers burned down and looted cities, and murdered Europeans and Christian Missionaries. It was very harmful to their own country and other nations. All in all, they were stopped by an alliance of 5 nations. A lot of harm was done and if imperialism wasn't a thing, none of that would've happened.
