In this photo, it shows three individuals trying to reach for an apple with each on a different and lower level than the other. There are red blocks added to the two individuals who are lower, leveling each person out so they all have a fair chance to reach for the apples. This photo describes health equity because it is a term used to describe providing all individuals with an equal and fair opportunity to better their health or stay as healthy as they possibly can be. Health equity focuses on providing healthcare to all despite their race, economic status, gender, etc. and by removing further obstacles that make it difficult to have access to healthcare. It is not about providing the same resources to everyone, but providing the necessary resources to each person so they individually have a fair chance at being or remaining healthy.

Intersectionality is the acknowledgment of individuals' unique identities. Understanding intersectionality considers that everyone has an individual experience of oppression, discrimination, advantages, and privileges. This image is a reflection of intersectionality as each person represents their social identities in terms of gender, religion, sexual orientation , social class, and ethnicity. These intersections of identities can oppress a group or individuals within a community affecting their experiences. For example, a Hispanic female coming from a low-income household may experience racial, gender, and class injustices. These discriminations can be prevalent in the workplace as racial diversity and gender can set limitations to job opportunities. On average, females are paid less than men in the workplace, but a minority female can make even less. Gender and racial identity overlapping can result in greater disadvantages where each identity's role affects a person's life.

Health Equity aims to achieve a society in which everyone has a equal opportunity to live the healthiest life possible. This photo represents the difference between equality and equity. As shown on the left everyone is given the exact same resources, yet the person in purple is unable to watch the baseball game. Equality is giving the same resources and opportunity to everyone which is not beneficial for everyone. The image on the right represents equity which involves distributing resources based on the needs of the recipients. It is important to help the people that are limited on their access to resources and structural inequities. Health depends on more than just the individual but on the surrounding community.

Diversity is acknowledging and respecting the cultures of others. In a diverse society, people must be able to recognize and accept individual differences such as sex, ethnicity, race, and sexual orientation. This means that people should not be oppressed or be treated unfairly for being individualistic. In a diverse world, we must be willing to include individuals of all races, genders, and ethnicities. This photo of various, different hands being raised up in unison is an example of diversity because it showcases different skin colors. The photo demonstrates the inclusion of various, unique individuals. It shows that a diverse world must be inclusive towards everyone and not just a singular race or ethnicity.

Someone's cultural awareness is when people have their own understanding among the differences between themselves and people from other countries or other backgrounds, especially with contrast in attitudes and values. It can also be seeing many differences among your own communities like the city you live in and places nearby. Being aware of different lifestyles, can help us reduce the chances of making bad decisions and increases the chance of us making more insightful and generously considered decisions. This picture greatly depicts that in a worldwide standpoint, we all can come together and embrace different cultures that make us unique and who we truly are. Although we share similarities of being humans, we differ in values and custom which is okay because the more cultures there are; the less boring it is since there is so much to enfold and become diversified with. Also, becoming known among the differences between cultures puts an increase in trust, and can improve professional and familial relationships. Therefore, by having complete awareness of cultural identities, the better our society will become due to the appreciation and perception people have for exotic cultural beliefs and values.

Cultural competence is the ability to understand, communicate and interact with people of different backgrounds and cultures. Cultural competence is when individuals make an effort to learn about different cultures and learn how to incorporate it into their health professions. The picture below is a good example of cultural competence in healthcare. For health care providers cultural competence can be define as delivering care that meets the patients cultural, religious, and social needs. In the picture below it shows that the patient has a translator. Having a translator can make clear up any confusions or questions. The doctor and patient are both able to understand each other. Also, having a translator the doctor is able to understand the patients’ culture, background, and to give the patient the best treatment/care.

Cultural sensitivity is the knowledge that cultural differences exist. Cultural sensitivity is the ability to apply an understanding that grows from the knowledge in different setting and situations which can be helpful when interacting with different cultures. One example of cultural sensitivity can be seen in hospitals when any staff member is communicating with a patient. Different cultures communicate in different ways in regards to eye contact, emotion, and even touch. As a CNA, I encounter many patients from different backgrounds and I try to educate myself of their culture and their likes and dislikes. One example was I had a Japanese female patient. I remember from my CNA training that Japanese do not like to maintain eye contact as it is considered disrespectful. As I explained any procedure to the patient or provided care, I made sure not to make eye contact for very long and look away but still stand in front of her so she can clearly understand everything. I feel being culturally sensitive with my patients not only established better communication but a better quality of health care when you get to know your patients. This picture represents cultural sensitivity between a Japanese patient and nurse who may look like they are looking at each other, but if you look closely, you see that there is no direct eye contact. The nurse is sensitive other patients culture and is not maintaining eye contact to avoid showing any disrespect.

Multiculturalism can be defined as the acknowledgment and acceptance of racial and cultural diversity, as well as the respect for the beliefs and values that people belonging to different cultures may hold. Additionally, multiculturalist customs conclude that all members of society should be treated as equals and that their contributions to society should be respected as such. The image that I included, although some may think it is cliché, is an accurate depiction of the term multiculturalism because it promotes the acceptance of all religions/ cultural beliefs as well as gender identities and sexual orientations. Multiculturalism advocates for equality among all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, age, ability, and more.

Intersectionality is the concept that an individual may have overlapping identities or categorizations that may place them in different forms of inequalities and discrimination that can impede on their opportunities, health, and lifestyle. The image I chose shows the different types of identities and social categories that individuals can identify themselves with and as their circles overlap each other this signifies that each identity or category has an impact on another and that they are all intertwined within different systems. An individual’s intersecting identities can form either advantages or disadvantages that separates them from opportunities another individual may have. For example, a queer African American woman may face intersecting forms of discrimination in her work environment due to her sexuality, race, and gender. Some overlapping forms of discrimination she could experience can include unfair treatment or sexual harassment by other coworkers due to her sexuality and gender. Other forms forms of discrimination she could experience is unequal pay due to her gender and race. In a sense you can see this individual and many others who have similar overlapping identities as the minority within a minority that can be faced with additional disadvantages that can impact their ability to achieve their goals, fulfill opportunities, experience fair treatment or equality, and be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle in comparison to an individual with traits that brings them more advantages and this concept altogether is known as intersectionality.

I used this image to explain cultural awareness because it's showing how the teacher is teaching students of different cultures that exists across the globe.

We live in a world and state that is diverse. Cultural awareness is the understanding of other peoples differences and backgrounds. It is also the understanding of different values, practices, beliefs and culture. The image below presents a collage of people with different cultures. It is important to take into consideration that we all have different beliefs and core values. These beliefs, values and practices have all been taught and acquired based on one's roots and/or experiences. Therefore, we should all be considerate and open-minded with other cultures. As a whole, we should all be mindful of the different cultures that are practiced. We live in a diverse society and need to accept one another despite our different beliefs. We have to remember that one's culture is not any better than another. We are all equal despite our differences. Therefore, we should spread cultural awareness at a young age for the upcoming generations.

Cultural confidence is a lifelong process of self-reflecting. An example of cultural confidence is a teacher recognizing her privilege because she is a

White woman living in America and being part of the discussion to change the racist acts at work.

The main purpose and goal of health equity is to help provide our society and community with a livable living which is fair and equal based on their need. This picture is a perfect example of the differences between equality and equity as in equality everyone is giving the same bike as it is fair. The problem with this is the girl is unable to ride that specific bike as she is disabled, as well as the kids bike in the front is too big for him to enjoy and proper steer. The picture on the bottom shows health equity in which the girl in the wheelchair is given a proper bike and the kid in the front is given a proper bike for his side. In this way with health equity every person in the picture was able to enjoy the ride and bike due to the proper resources given based on what the individual needs.

Many people forget that people around the world don't look, act, or live the same way they do. This is why cultural awareness is important. People need to realize that every country has different cultural beliefs and it's important to respect those beliefs and customs. Being knowledgeable, aware, and accepting of other cultures can bring us to a much brighter future.

Intersectionality is when a person or group of people have overlapping parts of their identity that may cause different cases of oppression to stack on top of each other. For example, I added an image of street signs that may classify different types of discrimination. I believe that this is an example of intersectionality because a person can have multiple different parts of their identity that fits with every sign. For example, imagine an older African American woman who is poor, lesbian, and living in a wheelchair. That would mean that person may possibly be bombarded with racsim, classism, sexism, ableism, and heterosexism all at the same time. This is an example of intersectionality because, again, a person may have multiple parts of their identity that overlap.

Being culturally confident often entails ignorance and being prejudices towards others, since each culture has its own traditions and values. Individuals who are culturally confident are often blinded by their own culture that they may become uncomfortable discussing racial topics or issues, but they are willing to accept different cultures since the world is a very diverse place. The picture illustrates a man holding a Canadian, American, and United Kingdom flag. These three countries predominantly having a large White demographic with English as their main language, but they all have their own traditions and values. The man is smiling which illustrates that he acknowledges and accepts the different countries.

It is the ability to apply the understanding that stems from that knowledge in different settings and situations to ensure or facilitate a useful interaction for all parties concerned. To demonstrate cultural sensitivity, you are showing that you are aware of the cultural similarities and differences between people and are open to learn about the traditions and beliefs of other cultures.
I chose this picture because it is an example of seamlessly interacting with others from different cultures by following the norms of that culture. The man is greeting the other in the way he would if he was apart of the other's culture by bowing. He is showing that he is aware of their cultural differences but recognizes that no culture is better than any other.

Diversity is essential for many different reasons. It can be important in a learning environment, like school, because it enriches the educational experience. People learn from those whose experiences, beliefs, and perspectives are different from their own. By learning about other people's cultures and lifestyles, you can learn more about how people differ from yourself. In my opinion, I believe that diversity is what sets you apart from others. It can be your race, gender, religion, or whatever else that makes you, you. Also, diversity helps promote personal growth and a healthy society. It encourages critical thinking, and it helps people to learn to communicate with people of varied backgrounds. If there wasn't much diversity in the world, people would have more challenging times talking with others and difficulties accepting change. Diversity teaches people that there is more out there in the world and more to explore than only in their cultures. Diversity makes the world a fascinating and unique place.

By doing so people are able to effectively and respectfully communicate with individuals of different cultures. The picture I've chosen represents cultural humility because it shows people greeting each other even though they all speak different languages. These individuals are interacting even though they come from different backgrounds and that's what cultural humility is all about. Taking that step forward and making the effort to get to know someone who is culturally different. In the end, both sides will have learn something new that they might've never known had they not interacted with each other.

Social Justice is the need for equality and human rights inputted in society. Today issues such as racism occurs systemically not only in the prison industrial complex, but also in the health industry and employment industry. People are judged upon their skin tone and social status and some people have more advantages than others. Today people don't have equal rights when it comes to healthcare and laws and policies just based off their skin tones. Their is always a barrier that stops them from taking advantage of opportunities in society whether it's healthcare resources or jobs that are being seeded out for. the primary goal for social justice is to create equality in all parts of the system whether it's in health, job opportunities, and in policies being inputted throughout society. The photo on the bottom here shows social justice in people trying to find equality in laws that are made in society. African Americans are the ones who are mostly discriminated in society today, therefore there needs to be justice taking into part.

Health equity is based on fair opportunity for everyone to be healthy as possible without the intervening of health disparities. The image reflects that because our communities are trying to provide resources and opportunities for people to stop the spread of COVID-19 and not have to go through the risks of getting sick or dying from the virus. By ensuring health equity for the community it can be translated into providing accessible information on COVID-19, affordable or free testing, and affordable medical and mental care. For example, if wealthier communities were only given opportunities to testing opposed to those who live in lower income communities (Most likely essential workers) then it wouldn't be considered health equity during the unprecedented times of the pandemic. It could also be communities who might not have the resources to social distance and quarantine when needed so public health provides resources where they can find a place to stay temporarily so they can quarantine and not risk infecting their whole family. Also, providing resources so that everyone can have a face-covering to protect themselves and their community. The fairness is the vision that public health wants to accomplish in order to protect everyone from the virus and keep everyone healthy.

However, self-reflection comes after interacting with these diverse individuals which is why this is a on going process where they continue to learn from them and their culture. It results in seeing what you can do better to communicate effectively with others from a different culture the next time you have an encounter. The photo I used as an example was the chance/change image because whenever someone has the chance to speak to someone new especially from a different culture they have the opportunity to reflect and change. With change they can have a different approach to certain situations/topics regarding culture they may not know much about and have the ability communicate better with diverse individuals.

Intersectionality

Intersectionality is about how individual socially constructed concepts such as race, gender, identity, religious affiliation, and so much more actually overlap. Intersectionality looks beyond just the black and white and looks at the gray area of such concepts. It shows that a person can be easily overlapped by different concepts and that each concepts can affect a person differently. One person can experience different discrimination and inequalities. this is why I chose the picture that says "Intersectionality is about fighting discrimination within discrimination, tackling inequalities within inequalities and protecting minorities within minorities." This shows that it isnt as simple as it seems and that each person goes through their own discrimination such as a person who is African American that is male compared to a female will go through different type of intersecting discrimination.

Cultural awareness can be defined as being observant and conscious of similarities and differences among different cultural groups. Cultural awareness is essential in healthcare because it can help the health care providers, nurses, etc., to be more responsive to their patients with different cultures. They can be more sensitive and accessible as health care providers not to offend their patients and provide the best treatment plan. The picture that I have chosen represents people with different cultures who can be friends as one. Everyone has diverse backgrounds and cultures, and we need to respect other people's cultures. It is fantastic when we can learn from their cultures and participate in meaningful interactions with them.

The imagine you provides is a great example of diversity, not only showing different type of skin color but also how people show to express themself with art with their body. We as a society should respect each other no matter our skin color and what we decide to do with our own body. We are all different and we have discern chocies in life. We have different beliefs and aspects. We come in diferente shapes and forms and have Individual thoughts. This shows a wide variety of people and who we can all come together as one .

In the photo, we see migrant women who are waiting by the Mexican border. You can gain an insight on intersectionality form the photo by understanding their social and political identification. One has a visual understanding of the age of the women, race, sexuality, their physical appearance, height and their social standing and religion belief. You can gain a perspective of who they are as an individual and how everything comes into play. You can get a sense of understanding that are Hispanic mother who are under privileged and are in the low scales of the social ladder. They are people who are in need of help and resource. They are people who are coming from a different country and trying to do better for themselves. Once their enter the USA, all these forms of who they identify as will affect how their lives will play out and how they would be treated.

Cultural Competence refers to an individual's or an agency's ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. In a health setting, the health professional strives to achieve the ability and availability to effectively work within the cultural context of the patient. Being culturally competent does not mean that people has to know everything about every culture. People just have to be respectful and sensitive to cultural differences. To be culturally competent, one needs to understand their own worldviews and others while avoiding stereotyping, judgment, and misapplication of scientific knowledge.
