         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p>Kiteboarding&nbsp;or&nbsp;kitesurfing<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiteboarding#cite_note-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a>&nbsp;is a sport that involves using&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power">wind power</a>&nbsp;with a large&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_kite">power kite</a>&nbsp;to pull a rider across a water, land, snow, sand, or other surface.</p><p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p>In this elite field, the current world champion and&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/max-maeder-olympic-medal-bronze-kitefoiling-paris-games-4537696">Olympic bronze medallist</a>&nbsp;is Singapore’s very own Max Maeder.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He began kiteboarding at age six, thanks to his parents Valentin and Hwee Keng, who were also kiteboarders.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>From age 11, Max honed his skills on the professional circuit, racing against adults. Six world youth titles and two senior world titles later, Max delivered&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sport/max-maeder-kitefoiling-final-paris-olympics-live-4532396">Singapore’s very first Olympic medal in sailing</a> at the tender age of 17.</p><p>Competitiveness runs through 17-year-old kitefoiling world champion Max Maeder like an electric charge.<br><br>“It is important to me that I come and give my best consistently…That it should be better than my best that I gave last time. And while winning is fine, I absolutely despise losing,” he says.<br>He trusts in his skills, his data, but also in his fire.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Paralympic Games,&nbsp;major international sports competition for athletes with disabilities.</p><p>The Paralympic Games are more than just a sporting event – they offer a unique opportunity for disability to shine, inspire individuals, bring about social change, and promote inclusive professional and sports opportunities for people with disabilities.</p><p><strong>Yip Pin Xiu</strong> (born 10 January 1992) is a Singaporean&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backstroke">backstroke</a>&nbsp;swimmer.&nbsp;She is a six-time Paralympic gold medalist and four-time World Champion, with two&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IPC_world_records_in_swimming_%E2%80%93_Women%27s_long_course">world records</a>&nbsp;in the Women's 50m Backstroke and Women's 100m Backstroke.</p><p>At birth, she had&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charcot%E2%80%93Marie%E2%80%93Tooth_disease">Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease</a>&nbsp;but her symptoms only appeared when she was two years old. Due to her aunt witnessing her unable to extend and rotate her ankles, her family brought her to a doctor and was initially diagnosed as&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscular_dystrophy">muscular dystrophy</a>.<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yip_Pin_Xiu#cite_note-donald-8"><sup>[7]</sup></a>&nbsp;When Yip was five, she started swimming to improve her health and strengthen her muscles;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yip_Pin_Xiu#cite_note-stroke-7"><sup>[6]</sup></a>&nbsp;nevertheless, by the age of thirteen, she had lost her ability to walk and had to use a wheelchair.</p><p>Yip Pin Xiu is more than a swimmer, she believes&nbsp;her greater purpose goes beyond the pool and transcends sports. She uses her success to speak passionately about equality, overcoming challenges and empowerment.</p><p>Yip started swimming competitively when she was twelve years old.<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yip_Pin_Xiu#cite_note-thewonder-9"><sup>[8]</sup></a>&nbsp;After losing her ability to kick, Yip switched from the&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_crawl">front crawl</a>&nbsp;to the&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backstroke">backstroke</a>.</p><p>Besides swimming, Yip has participated in events to raise awareness of disabled sports, such as the Interschool Swimming Meets and Sengkang Primary School Track and Field Meet 2007.</p>]]></description>
