We all know that water and soil are essential not only to our life but also to the survival of other species and the environment. These two serve as one of our basic needs in life, ensuring our long-term survival in this world. It also has something to do with our environment; just like trees, it requires soil to support the root system and water to produce oxygen, which they release into the environment, which is beneficial to us because oxygen is one of our basic needs. It ’s obvious that we should do something to keep these two clean and usable. Unfortunately, most of us have forgotten how to care for our enviroment.

As I learned more about our lesson, I realized that as the world becomes more modernized, the more our natural resources are depleted. It's normal to develop our surroundings because it contributes to our long-term sustainability in terms of certain needs, but we didn't realize that we were also destroying Mother Nature. There are numerous ways to protect the environment while simultaneously developing technology and industry. All we have to do is be responsible with our water usage and avoid activities that cause soil erosion. Understand the significance of it because we need them more than they need us. After all, we are still here as a protector and keeper of this world.

Rice fields produce rice that we eat at everyday. One of the main supports of rice fields is the Irrigation water, it helps to maintain soil moisture and the standing layer of water over the paddy field. Rice is grown in water primarily to stave off pests, and keep weeds away from the rice fields. Neither weeds nor pests can survive in water for prolonged periods, but rice can. This acts as a natural pest and weed control, without resorting to pesticides or herbicides

When rainfall is insufficient, irrigation helps to stabilize farm production by protecting it from drought and increasing crop yields and quality. It enables farmers to cultivate moisture-sensitive, high-value crops as well as crops that will improve their diet. Irrigation improves crop growth and quality in areas with erratic precipitation. Irrigation increases food supply reliability by allowing farmers to grow crops on a consistent schedule. Irrigation is important in our rice fields because it helps us produce a better product.

Without water, survival is impossible as farmers can no longer turn to their crops, animals will become extinct and food shortages will transpire. Moreover, the soil is essential for agriculture and food security. Without it, we wouldn't be able to cultivate the food that we need to survive.

These two essential things on Earth are interconnected and interrelated. These are part of our hydrologic cycle. Furthermore, healthy and productive soils require water. It is the medium by which natural chemicals and critical trace element nutrients are transferred to plants, as well as binding and securing physical particles in soil structure. Plants cannot develop without water, and all plants require some water in order to exist. On the other hand, excess nutrients can be picked up by groundwater as it travels through the soil (Contaminants may reach groundwater from activities on the land surface) and be transported to the water table. When contaminated groundwater enters drinking water systems, it poses a major threat to public health.

By these, we can clearly see that we have the duty to protect and take care of our soil and water resources as our activities affect them. By discussion, it makes me think of what I can do and what we can do to preserve these. One basic thing is waste and trash management.

With the conservation of our land and water resources, we will not do it just for ourselves but also for the next generation.

Soil provides the nutrients essential for plant growth, animal life, and millions of microorganisms. However, if soil becomes unhealthy, unstable, or polluted, the life cycle stops. Soil conservation focuses on keeping soils healthy through a combination of practices and techniques. Individuals committed to soil conservation help ensure that soil is fertile and productive, and protect it from erosion and deterioration.

The quality of our water is intimately associated with the quality of our soils, and there is a strong correlation between the two of them.

Water in the soil not only hydrates plants and animals, but also transports nutrients and another vital element from the soil to plants, bacteria, mictobes and other organisms.

Water in excess, on the other hand, can be harmful. Excessive rainfall, for example, can cause issues such as soil erosion and waterlog, depriving plants and flora of oxygen. Fortunately, certain soil qualities can lessen the likelihood of this occurring. -Galola

Human activities heavily degraded the beauty and uses of our giving nature. Due to our continuing take on modernity, our forests, rivers and the rest of the nature is in danger. The continuing construction of roads, buildings, and converting of forests to agricultural and urban uses have contributed a lot to soil erosion. Another human activity that has left a stain on our home is the production of fossil fuels. fracking and coal mining use a great deal of water, but because their waste products can pollute groundwater, and therefore drinking water, as well.

This lesson not only reminded me how much humanity have been taking away from our own home, but also made me realize how much this world needed our care. Together, we shall piece by piece fix and return our mother nature to its old and beautiful self. Using our very own hands that took its advantage, we will bring its pieces back together.

-Delos Reyes, Kim Thea T.

Soil plays an important role in Earth’s ecosystem because based on my research soils give home to myriad micro-organisms that fix nitrogen and decompose organic matter. Without soil a lot of living organisms' life would not be easy because soil has a broad function, Soil helps a plant with a foothold for their roots and holds a necessary nutrient for a plant to grow. Soil is capable of storing large amounts of organic carbon, it also protects groundwater property because as rain falls, water begins to filter into the ground.

Dams are important source of water supply and high importance for various other reasons. They supply the water for the various means including domestic use, irrigation purposes and also for the industrial uses. Dams are also involved in the hydroelectric power generation and in the river navigation. It is a huge water retaining structures. These are used to store water. During the season of low rainfall, the storage water can be used for agricultural purposes. This stored water is also helpful in case of fish agriculture and they help people by reducing or preventing floods. Some dams help protect the environment by trapping hazardous materials in water and capturing sediment that could contain harmful or toxic substances. Some dams also have mine tailing impoundments, which help facilitate the processing of minerals in an environmentally friendly way.
