I would say that they are more informative, and their review board is very diverse so I don't think that there is a certain bias expressed. They also push writing in a judgment-free way that "empowers you to take an active role in your health".

Accuracy: This source is accurate, because it quotes the sources that it uses, and links to those sources, when applicable. 

Authority: Jacqueline Howard and Betsy Klein are both the reporters for the article. They were funded by CNN, a news-reporting media. Betsy Klein has years of experience working as a reporter, and Jacqueline Howard has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, which qualifies her as a reporter for CNN. 

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to inform all US citizens that free N-95 masks are being given away, and how to receive one.

Reliability:  This article is very reliable as there is a study used to explain how COVID effects the brain. The study compared 8 brains of people who had COVID verses 14 who didn’t. It showed that “gene expression had been affected in some astrocytes, which were not working properly.” This shows that COVID can cause serious neurological damage.

R- This article addresses the topic with the information that is easy to understand for the average person, but it does seems like they are trying to sway you one way with the information but still gives good points. 

A-It does not give link to other websites with more references, but it does point you in the direction to the FDA  to make sure the at home COVID-19 test you are looking into are authorized by the FDA.

A- The authors name is Katie McCallum who is currently a writer at Houston Methodist and was a Biomedical scientist for eight years. It appears to be that Houston Methodists is the sponsor for this article and website.

P- I believe this article may be a little biased as they are promoting a PCR test at their own facilities instead of at home test. 

Based on my analysis I would say this article is not CRAAP approved because of the date the article was posted and the fact that they don’t list any other sources with links is a red flags to me. 

Currency- The page was last reviewed on November 2nd, 2021 which was pretty recent, but since there is new information about Covid all the time I don't think it is up to date.
Relevance- I think this article was relevant because it explains the new recommendation and why it is important for kids to get the vaccine. 
Authority- The website was created by the CDC which has very high authority and is funded by the government. 
Accuracy- It includes statistics and facts as well as input from professionals like the CDC director Dr. Walensky.
Purpose- The purpose is to inform the public about the new recommendation 
of giving vaccines to children. I don't think it is trying to persuade, but instead, give the facts about the positive impact of the vaccine.

R - This article would be considered reliable because when the author stated things, like statistics, they linked other articles for credibility. 

A- The website that I found this article on was BBC, which is an award-winning science site, and they state they are committed to bringing evidence-based analyses articles about coronavirus. So, I would say this article was pretty accurate at that time. 

A- The article tells me who wrote it and links another article by the same author, and they also state they wrote a feature story for TIME magazine on the subject of a fictional pandemic, so I would say he is qualified. 

P- The purpose of this article is to inform. The author talks about the history of pandemics and puts facts about these past viruses. He also stated the number of confirmed cases and deaths at the time. 

Currency- This information is very timely and up to date. It was last updated on Janurary 12th, 2022. This means it was updated around two weeks ago. 

Reliability- This article is very reliable due to it being published by The Centers for Disese Control and prevention (CDC). The content source is also from The National Center for Immunization and Respitory Diseases (NCIRD). Both of these well-known companies are very reliable and are known for only trying to help the american people. 

Accuracy- I believe this article to be very accurate because it is up to date with new knowledge of what the government is trying to help the decrease in covid-19 and the increase in the vaccines. 

Authority- I can not find the author so I wouldnt be able to say this source passes the CRAAP test completely but im sure it is because there are so many people that update it weekly that there are too many authors to name. 

Purpose- The purpose is to get the readers to realize that the vaccine is only for helping the american people and to get them to all understand that the shot is safe and effective. 

Currency: This story was published in June of 2020 but I will not qualify it as up to date because the information provided is outdated. “This story was updated on July 11 to include information on why valved masks do not block exhaled droplets.”(Still Confused About Masks? Reliability: The article does address the topic in detail but I would hardly consider it reliable.

Accuracy: The article is not accurate. All of the external links lead to dead web pages/ ones that no longer exist. Either those links never were valid or information was updated on all platforms except the one article using them.

Authority: The author surprisingly is listed and is a credible source for reporting and writing detailed and well-informed articles but she failed to follow up as more information began to develop. 

Purpose: It is clear her purpose is to inform but she fails to realize we as humans have a confirmation bias meaning that those who have polar views of masks and Covid, in general, will see this article and take it as fact without doing further research which is damaging to a society trying to heal and assimilate back to a “normal” society i.e. pre-Covid.

R- I would say it is reliable all of its quotes are pretty much all from doctors. Plus, all the information is understandable and not far-fetched.

P- To inform the world about the new strands of COVID-19, and in hopes more people will get vaccinated.

R - Although no references are cited, the World Health Organization (WHO) is a fairly credible cite, therefore could be reliable on its own (✓).

A - The accuracy of the website is questionable only due to the fact that of the lack of citation, names of references of research done, and lack of dates besides when it was published (✗). 

A - World Health Organization (WHO) is supplementary funded by the U.S government. Not saying that it validates the information it spreads, but it does give it more leverage as far as the validity of the information (✓).

P - The purpose is to inform the public about the new variants of the virus and the new precautions and actions being put into place to combat the sickness. It lacks nearly any basis and focuses on informing with facts (✓). 

Currency: This article was written on 24 January 2022. Which means that this information is current and up to date with what is going on.

Relevance: This article is relevant because it is addressing how the term endemic is not what people think it is. Covid is still a thing and it is still harmful.

Authority:  This article was written by Aris Katzourakis, a professor at the University of Oxford, UK. He studies viral evolution and genomics, so I would say he is a very reliable source for this subject.

Accuracy: I am not sure if this article would pass the accuracy portion. There are “related topics” but they are just about the pandemic, not about the subject of this specific article/

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to let people know that the terms being used during this pandemic do not mean what they think it does. Everyone needs to understand that this pandemic is still a thing, and is harmful despite what the media is telling them.

Relevancy- this article is about how masks help prevent the spread on Covid and it helps to educate people about wearing masks. So yes, it is relevant. 

Authority- the website is a nonprofit organization that works closely with the U.S. Covid 19 team and has many mentions of CDC all throughout. So yes, it passes for the authority.

Accuracy- the website has many references that are linked to the CDC. So yes, it is very accurate. 

Purpose- the purpose of this article is to inform the public are the safety of masks, so I’d say it serves a good purpose.

 

This article does pass the CRAAP test. 

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to show that Europe is trying to move on with their lives and push through the pandemic. They took away safety measures throughout the countries because of the data found through studies done by the CDC, Scottish studies, and South Africa. People around the world are realizing they can make the push towards normality again. 

From my analysis I found this article to pass the CRAAP test and very informational. It gave me hope that because what the scientists are recently discovering that maybe our country can push towards normalcy too.

Purpose-The author puts information out about long lasting issues that can arise with covid. I would say that it has passes the CRAAP Test.
