Glucose is a type of sugar that comes from the foods we eat and drinks that we consume. Sugar isn't actually bad for you. In fact, it's a great source of energy that helps fuel our body - when consumed in the right way and in moderation.

*Our bodies like and want foods that contain natural sugar. Foods that contain natural sugar are fruits, vegetables, and grains (think of it as anything that is grown from trees or from within the ground).
*Our bodies can have foods that contain processed sugar, but in moderation. These include candy, cookies, ice cream, soda, etc.

Sugar is a great source of energy that helps fuel our body, but when consumed in the right way and in moderation. Sugar itself is not bad for you. It is the types of sugar that you eat, how much, and how often that you eat it that effects you. Too much sugar in your body can negatively impact you. When you intake too much sugar...

- You may experience a stomach ache, start to feel sluggish, feel moody; you may not feel like your regular self.
- The body begins to store that extra sugar for energy, but if too much sugar is consistently consumed overtime or you regularly intake high amounts of sugar daily, the sugar will eventually convert to fat cells within the body.
- Too much sugar can lead to a build up of excess sugar in the bloodstream and potentially harm your internal organs.
- Excessive amounts of sugar on a regular basis can also increases your chances of developing health issues such as difficulty in performing physical activities, heart problems, dental problems, and can even bring on diabetes.

Diabetes is a disease where sugar within the bloodstream builds up causing you to experience high blood sugar levels.

There are a couple of different types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes: Is when the pancreas can't make or produce insulin. The body can still intake glucose from food, but the glucose can't get into the cells where it's needed. Glucose will stay in the blood causing the blood sugar level to rise. This condition generally occurs when there is a family history or due to genetics.
People with Type 1 diabetes are typically children, teens, and young adults.

Type 2 diabetes: Is when the pancreas still makes insulin, but not enough to do its job, ultimately causing the blood sugar level to rise. This condition generally occurs due to lifestyle choices such as poor diet choices and lack of exercise. People with Type 2 diabetes are typically older adults.
