I would incorporate poetry in my early childhood education setting by allowing students to use it as a means of showing their understanding after being introduced to new academic vocabulary words or a new book being read during a Read Aloud. Creating poetry is a wonderful way for students to share information they learned throughout class or during independent study, and it can be very flexible! Poetry is powerful!

I could also incorporate poems when teaching rhyming words since some types of poems incorporate the use of rhyming words. Along with the poems and rhyming words. Dr Seuss books can be used to further the children's understanding.

I would incorporate poetry into my classroom within the maker space center. After the children create a sculpture or any 2D art, I would ask them to then write about what they did and why they did it. If they cannot write then I would have a recording device available for the students to record their voice speaking about what comes to mind when they see their works of art. Thats whenI would encourage them to create a poem for their work orally or written.

I would incorporate the use of poetry in my classroom by starting the school year with a Who Am I poem. I feel this is a great way to have students get to know each other and introduce them to poetry. As the school year progresses, poetry can be incorporated in different areas especially when practicing language and literacy skills. Using fun poetry will spark an interest in students and if they are enjoying what they are reading, they will have a lot of success with their reading and writing skills. I see poetry being especially beneficial when incorporated in something students are already learning in class such as art. Art is a way students can express themselves, so it seems natural to incorporate poetry with art. Ekphrastic poetry is something I would use in the classroom. This would give students the opportunity to analyze art, express how that art can be put into their own words, and allow them to share their ideas with classmates.

I would incorporate poetry into many different lessons, even those that are not related to literacy. Poetry is a great way to encourage self-expression, but also requires children to use their literacy and writing skills. I would have children to create their own poetry to describe something that they have independently created in class, such as a picture or a sculpture. Poetry geared towards young children often includes rhyming words, therefore I would also incorporate poetry into teaching rhyming sounds.
