I feel this is a great way to have students get to know each other and introduce them to poetry. As the school year progresses, poetry can be incorporated in different areas especially when practicing language and literacy skills. Using fun poetry will spark an interest in students and if they are enjoying what they are reading, they will have a lot of success with their reading and writing skills. I see poetry being especially beneficial when incorporated in something students are already learning in class such as art. Art is a way students can express themselves, so it seems natural to incorporate poetry with art. Ekphrastic poetry is something I would use in the classroom. This would give students the opportunity to analyze art, express how that art can be put into their own words, and allow them to share their ideas with classmates.
