The tone in this poem seems to be very lonely and dark. phrases that reveal this tone is "it stood isolated" and "detached, in measureless oceans of space". These quotes give us a idea that the spider is lonely. Walt Whitman also uses words that convey a sense of patience, loneliness, and the search for meaning in the vastness of the world. Words like "Noiseless", "patient", and "filament" give us the idea that the spider has a quiet and diligent exploration.

2.What heavily connotative words are used? What words have unusual or special meanings? Are any words or phrases repeated? If so why? Which words do you need to look up?

In the poem the Noiseless Patient Spider the words isolated, and detached are connotative. These words are representative of the idea that the spider is alone and that it is alone not being able to leave the web not being able to go anywhere else. An example is "Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space." This quote uses the word detached and after it shows the spiders hope to leave instead of being isolated on one single web. The word filament is used multiple times to describe the spiders push to leave the web. It helps to describe the emotion of the spider.

6.What is the theme(the central idea) of this poem? Can you state it in a single sentence? Elaborate on your idea?

The central theme of The Noiseless Patient Spider is the hope of connecting to the outside. The spider in the poem is stuck on the web alone and isolated he is surrounded by nothing which the author uses to show how the spider is currently feeling at this time. The spider pushes out the web and begins its trek to connection. An example in the text is"Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing seeking the spheres to connect them" This quote supports the hope of the spider to connect outside to connect outside. The author uses the poem to show the hope of people to leave instead of staying put in one location noiseless.

One key symbol in the poem "A Noiseless Patient Spider" is the spider itself, which can be seen as a metaphor for the human soul. The spider is described as "noiseless" and "patient" showing us the qualities of perseverance and isolation. The spider's quest to create a web to connect and bridge the gap between vacant space and objects around it symbolizes Walt Whitman's attempt to make connections with his friends, family, and create relationships

Walter Whitman is a person who is self taught. He writes this poem to teach himself the ways that he could break out of his isolation of writing to instead connect himself with himself with his family. The idea of the poem is about how a spider is alone and breaks out of his web to connect himself with a bridge to nature. Walter Whitman writes about this to teach himself on the ways to connect with others.
