Silent walk

I went and walked to the nearby park and spend afew minutes there, the place that was leading to the park had a very windy pathway and I stopped halfway through the path that was leading to the park and took a sit and decided to observe the things that were around me. The colour that I felt when I was leaving my place was very blue and grey as it was windy and the clouds were passing by quickly. As I reached that place, I felt a change as the clouds were passing by fast and the sun showed up scorching hot! But I observed a bunch of primary school Jay walking from one point to another and it led me to a memory that I had when I was on primary school how I actually went back home !

Silent Walk
21 July 2021

As I walk through the street from Cross Street Exchange to Duxton Hill, I observed and explored many things such as things in nature and man-made structures around these areas. There were many beautiful, colorful, interesting buildings as I walked through. I took a photo of a few of these buildings shown below. They were each accented and shaped differently near the roof. The windows were attractive in the way that they were designed and sized.

As I walked further down the street, I saw a tree between a temple and a building. It showed me how nature can function as a divider where people can move between the nature and man-made building. It was very unique, eye-catching and simple but ugly haha…

I was hungry in the middle of the walk, so I went to this Mexican restaurant that was covered with plants. It looked very vintage. I took a photo of the bar opposite my table. It caught my eye because the shelf was designed asymmetrically. It also shows the glass bottles were sharing each others weight.

After doing this task, I realized many people do not notice and overlook various designs meant to connect man and nature. Most people might notice the differences in ambience but not the things that create them.

23 July
1A. Physically choosing a different path

I chose to walk towards the mrt today instead of taking the bus and since it was early in the morning the air was actually quite cooling and refreshing. The path that I took was an upslope towards the mrt so that was a little tiring to walk. After a few mins of walking my legs started aching a little because it was a constant upslope. Since this wasn’t the route that I usually take I was a little afraid of getting lost so I wasn’t on my phone as much and was looking around more, I followed the traffic noises as the pathway I was walking has a small road next to it for cars and buses to pass through so I knew if I followed along the road I wouldn’t get lost. Even though there was a lot of cars and buses there wasn’t loud traffic noises instead I heard a lot of birds chirping and See a lot of people doing their morning jog.

I also realized a small shop located not too far away from the mrt station while I was walking. At first I had always thought of it as some sort of childcare centre because it was located in between hdb buildings but upon going closer to it. It was actually a little shop that sells things like groceries, candies, your daily needs and etc.

I realised that the playground had been renovated since my visits years ago and all the equipment was different, and any trafe of me and my friends have been wiped and new memories lay in place there.

I stood on the creaky top of the slide that the renovations weren’t new it had been quite a sum of years for the platform to creak and show cracks

I also saw that the playground i used to not see the top of, could be seen to me now as I have grown older and bigger

I found myself conscious of the people around me it was pretty empty which made me sort of eyecatcher, a blonde haired adult playing on swings at 120pm, which furthered the notion that I was in a place not made for me, and that sometimes you outgrow these meeting spaces

It seems as if nothing is out of the ordinary until I downsized by scope of view, zooming into everything around me. Taking one step at a time, I started to notice the usually neglected cracks on the pillars that apparently appears in most of the old pillars. Each crack seems to have its own stories, such as this one with a sheet of 'thing' inside which I dont dare to pull out. Some even has ants crawling around it.

On this day, I chose to cross this road crossing as I was on my way home for more than one time. I was using my inline skate to commute home. It is interesting to note that when you have rubbery wheels as your contact point to the ground, sensing different textures of the ground become very noticeable. This is because slight change in ground texture may jeopardize my balance, as such I responded in taking a more bent knee stance to lower my centre of gravity. My attention is also more focused on my feet.

Compared to walking on feet, I was able to tell clearly the change in texture from smooth, rocky, to semi-rough as seen in the short clip. It is as if every grains and gravel are accountable under my rubbery wheels

I was (luckily), able to notice the small white ants squirming on the ground and halted my journey to a pause for a minute. They were throusands of ants trying to evacuate, some carrying their eggs, as maybe a furnitre has just been moved away from that same spot few seconds ago. This was in front of a furniture shop. This silent shop suddenly became a meeting point for curious aunties and uncles to observe. As I distance myself away from the scene, the colony looks as if it faded away, too blur for humans to see from our height.

Coincidentally, the students were being dismissed from school and while walking past the bus stop near it, I came across an interaction between a mother and her child where I suppose the mother was awaiting for the school’s dismissal and was meeting for her child at the bus stop. Personally, I feel like a bus stop is a perfect spot to be a meeting point because it is distinctive, clear and easy to spot. A Javan Mynah; a common bird that we always see in Singapore, be it at a coffee shop, neighbourhood or even outside of the window. I stayed for a little longer and observed the mynah, and interpreting a scenario in my head as to what the mynah might be thinking about while seeing it hopping and running around the construction site. It was a 15 mins walk and even though it was a hot day I still enjoyed the walk as it has been a long time since I’ve taken this route.

Something interesting that I’ve found would be a mail pop up station underneath a void deck. It isn’t anything surprising but what interested me was that there was something “foreign” located in an area that I thought I was familiar with.

24 July 2021
1A.Physically choose a different path away from my home.

Today, I chose to walk a long way around to my house instead of going straight up the hill. It was very very sunny and hot. I felt like I was sweaty like waterfall. The sky was blue and the clouds were fluffy as cottons. The trees were swaying in the wind. The path that I took was even more tiring because I was carrying a bunch of groceries with both of my hands.

While walking this path, I realized that the road was much wider than the side walk, which made it uncomfortable to walk on because there were tree branches that extended onto the pavement. The atmosphere was peaceful and calming as I walked. There were no cars passing by at that moment just me myself walking and walking. There were no other pedestrians.

Halfway up, I started to feel my calves and thighs were aching a bit because the incline was still pretty steep. My shoulder were also soar because of the groceries that I was carrying. To be honest, I really hated this feeling as I walked because of the weather and the sweat. Plus, it was too peaceful and lonely. Honestly, my body didn’t feel much different when I rely less on my sight.

Another pathway home/meeting point
The usual route that I will take to go home is usually by the bus. I decided to walk home instead as It would be a great light workout as I havent been moving much. Thus I recently had my 2nd dose of vaccination too. As I was passing by the train station towards the traffic light, I realised that there were many people outside the train station and it made me realised that it is a very common meeting point for people. Reason said is because there were people waiting for their grab drivers to arrive and many were were waiting for someone else. It also reminded me of how I actually made a purchase online afew years back and met with the seller outside the train station itself.

25 July

On the way home instead of walking straight down the road to the crossing I usually use, I decided to turn left and walk around the school next to the station. I ended up on a mission to find mimosas and I was looking on the small gardens we have planted around basically everywhere, and I saw plants that were growing outside the flower bed’s rubber enclosure. I spent about 10 to 15 minutes squatting and walking the side of the road looking for mimosas and I screamed when I actually found some. As I kept walking I realised that I actually had walked all the way to the marketplace, so I went further than what my perceived “destination” and had to make an even longer way home than anticipated.

I felt that our residential areas though they seem small, it is really easy to walk around in just 5 minutes and, I also noticed that different groups of buildings are painted in different palettes and styles and I’m curious to know what was the reason. I felt that as I walked alone as it was during the late afternoon early evening, the sun was setting and it felt really awkward to be alone, I don’t know why but I started talking/singing to myself as a sort of narration of what was going on. Perhaps it was because a red headed adult was crouching poking plants for quite some times. I felt that I had to be very clear on what my directions we’re because if i continued to walk straight on that left turn I would probably end up so far I’d have to take a bus home in the opposite direction. Without my usual route I was very conscious on where I walked or where Im turning towards and I tried to envision the space I was in, in reference to the space I always knew. Some what of a mind map of blurry ideas on where I thought things went, like a estate planning blueprint, but fuzzy and unclear.

They’re flying so fast that I’m not sure if my video is clear enough to capture them. It caught my attention because these are the things that I will not even care to have a look in daily life. Not only that but it’s quite interesting that they somehow disappear immediately even if I am focusing and staring at them. Did they camouflage with the grass 🤨 or were they really just fast?

The bar was identical as the one in the picture. However, the bar in the picture hasn't fallen since the first time we stuck it to the wall and its grip has been as strong as before. This was because the vacuum in the grip is still preserved, no outside air could slip in, hence the atmospheric pressure from the earth naturally holds the suction cup in place. The evidence of the idea of 'strength preserved through time' is greatly seen inhow the outer side of the suction cup rubber has started to break outwards due to the constant compression by the atmospheric pressure over the years.

Found this quite fun to watch so I decided to take a video. Two tiny ants fighting over a piece of wood. I found it funny and weird because the ants probably thinks that the wood is a type of food and is trying to bring back to their “family” I was also surprised at the fact how an ant is able to carry that piece of wood so smoothly and fast. I’ve always thought of ants as weak little insects that are not strong and has to work in groups to finish their “tasks” (like finding food, etc) as I’m not a big fan of insects 🐜 sadly after I took this video I killed both ants and started to clean up the area

After living in this condo for four and a half months, I found out some interesting hidden elements inside my house. The first one is how the ceiling at this part of the house is lower than the rest. To me it looks strange and unequal out of place because it stands out from the appearance of the rest of the house. Also, the living room seems unbalanced and it is hot to stand there because there is no fan or air conditioned on that side.

The second interesting element that I discovered was how deep the staircase was in the hallway. It made it seem as if it were hidden from certain angles. For example, when visitors enters through the main door, they aren’t able to see the staircase because of the angle of their view. They are often surprised to discover that there is a second floor which is an entertainment room. From my point of view, I do not like how they designed the units in this condo because it is old.

Last but not least, the funniest and most ridiculous element that I observed was this specific window that has a handprint on it. I remembered the first time that I found out was very scary and made me question who and how in the world it got there. There are so many things that I want to say about these windows. First of all, the windows are too high for any proper air flow. Secondly, it is weirdly shaped. The lines are slanted each side like a pyramid which makes the house have an old school vibe. Lastly, the size of the window compared to the rest of the space is way too small HAHAH… I wish it was bigger so that I can see more of the beautiful sky outside.

Stacking my upper leg on the top of my knee. This is a side plank tree position which is set up in a forearm side plank with your elbow (plumbline) under your shoulders and legs out straight and stacked. I flexed my feet to create tension all the way down my leg. It was hard to maintain and balance after a while because it places the weight onto my forearm and my oblique. I always struggle to balance myself because of my centre of gravity. At the end, I found out that I had to strengthen my arm, core and back strength in order to balance easier.

Stacking my whole weight on an unconventional spot. I tried to explore which side of my body is the least I would stack my weight to, and I have chosen the top of my feet. As my feet arches is inflexible, I could not point my feet as fully, thus making this harder for me to achieve. However, the resistance of my feet presses me upwards more, allowing me to find my centre of gravity easier in this position.

I like how my shelves are nicely stacked up on each other and just enough space to cover up the power socket behind the shelves making it look more pleasing in the front. I like how the design chooses to stack it with the different sizes of the shelves on top of each other like for example the rectangular shelve is stacked on top of the squarish shelve. This shelves are actually stacked right on top of my table so yes there’s a lot of stacking going on here. It’s nicely stacked on top of my table and since it’s very visible I made some of the shelves look like a display box to put my figurines and items
