In fact, they both teach the exact same kids, and in the exact same classroom. They have a partnership that is called "Share Teaching." The basics of it are they work every other day. So, if Cox works 3 days this week, then Brown work 2 days and vice versa. This began 14 years ago and helped both of them in their situations. Originally Brown was a long term sub while Cox was out on maternity leave. Cox had to stay in the hospital longer than planned. Her principal approached both Cox and Brown and proposed "Share Teaching" to them. While I was observing him I was able to learn about Climate and Weather with his students. I was also available to do a Virtual Reality activity with the students that went with the his lesson. They put movable dividers in the middle of the room to make it into two classrooms. Mr. VanDever is on the other side. I could tell that the 8th graders knew exactly what was expected of them. Every class period students would come in a start first thing by writing in their journals and responding to the prompt. Mr. VanDever would open up the dividers for 6th period so all of the 8th grade English was together. Mr. Smith was awesome at answering every students questions. I thought it was cool that all of the students in the whole school were all watching that video. It told the story of several people who made the mistake of choosing drugs, and how it ruined them. For this they have a regular deck of playing cards. As students walk in the door they are given a card. They walk in and find the corresponding table.
