How did you get burned? Have your parents ever hurt you? Why do you have all these bruises and cuts?

This caused me to react in a way because when the doctor and nurse started to think otherwise this kinda took a big turn in some type of way because in the beginning it's vey clear that that the mom trusted her child to the point where she can cook by herself but when they gotten to the hospital the doctor and nurses thought otherwise because why would a child be cooking next to something that is hot.

"Mom says I'm mature for my age," I told them, "and she lets me cook for myself a lot." Two nurses looked at each other, and one of them wrote something down on a clipboard. I asked what was wrong. Nothing, they said, nothing.

This quote stood out to me the most because Jeannette is telling the nurses about how she cooks for herself often and how her mom is okay with it because she thinks Jeannette is mature for her age. Jeanette doesn't think there is anything wrong with this and the nurses seem concerned but don't want to show it because of how calm Jeannette is about the situation.

Two nurses looked at each other, and one of them wrote something down on a clipboard. I asked what was wrong. Nothing, they said, nothing.

This quote stood out to me because it makes me question her mother as a parent. Little kids should not be left alone for one and for two, she shouldn't be cooking and taking care of herself. I believe in learning at a young age, but where is the mother? Why isn't she at least helping her? Her mother should be right there all the time. 3 years old, she is so little still. I just don't agree with the choices the mother makes with her child.

"Mom says I'm mature for my age," I told them, "and she lets me cook for myself a lot."
- It's clear that the mom really trust her child. Jeanette is highly aware of things and the way she thinks is just a bit interesting. She's able to think for herself at a young age, and her mom understands that. But I feel like she shouldn't put too much trust in Jeanette because she ended up getting burnt and having to go to the hospital. The way Jeanette thinks is just so captivating in a way, but it makes other people worry in a sense.

I WAS ON FIRE. It’s my earliest memory. I was three years old, and we were living in a trailesouthern Arizona town whose name I never knew. I was standing on a chair in front of the stove, wearing a pink dress my grandmother had bought for me. Pink was my favorite color. The dress’s skirt stuck out like a tutu, and I liked to spin around in front of the mirror, thinking I looked like a ballerina. But at that moment, I was wearing the dress to cook hot dogs

Their faces were probably in disgust and i don't blame them, I wonder what the mom looked like in the waiting room, is she faking a sad face or is she sitting there unbothered and not worried about it like before.

“I know,” I said, “but if I’m not, that’s okay, too.” Jeannette is very confident and shows acceptance towards herself. I think this is amazing because she isn’t on how she will look she will make the most of it. Another quote that stood out to me was, “Look, I’m half-mummy.” Jeannette is joking and having fun about the situation, she is looking on the bright side.
