I learned from the YouTube videos are that people get thrown into waters to get sacrificed for the gods. I also learned that they used 12 pound rubber balls for pok a tok. One more thing I learned is that one of the pyramids they built was 79 feet tall. I think one thing I found intresting is that some people were sacrificed by being thrown into the bodies of water. I also found something most intresting is that the pok a tok ball was 12 pounds. One question I still have about archaeology is how many pyramids have they found?

Lastly, I learned that the pyramid on the spring and the autumn eclipse the sun creates a serpent shadow on the stairs and leads to the head. I think it is super interesting that the tall pyramid had 365 steps for 365 days in a solar year. I also found people getting thrown into the water to be sacrificed interesting. How did playing pok-a-tok and adding sacrifices become a habit or something that exists?

After watching the four archaeology videos I learned that, the steps on the maya pyramid had 365 steps. Which is the same amount of days in their solar year. I also learned that they don't just find pots and bones they also said that they find lots of other things as well which I did not know. They also said that just finding the artifacts are not the most important things. they said the most important thing is being able to explain what the things are and what they actually mean to the culture. I also learned that the tools they use to help find the artifacts are not tools you would think that they would use. I did not know that they would use shovels and brooms to help them take the artifacts that they found out of where they found them. They also use spades. I did not know how much of the tools they use are farming tools. That we would use to help us farm. I also did not know how much they are alike to the mayans as well. One of the most things that I found really interesting is that they use something like a screen to help them find the smaller artifacts. It was really cool to see what it looked like instead of having to visualize what it looked like. It was also cool to see how the serpent on the pyramid. Also I liked learning about how high the pyramids were. I thought that it was really amazing to hear that their pyramids were over 100 feet in the air.
- Emery Giglio

And ball in pok-a-tok is made out of rubber and weights 12 pounds. Chichen Itza takes part of its name from the lagre wells and those were there only permanent water source and also they threw people in these wells for chop as a sacrifice. One thing I found interesting is that the castle has 365 steps. on other thing is that "twice a year on the day of the spring and autumn equinoxes a shadow falls on El castillo in the shape of a serpent." how long Has archaeology been going on for?

Two things I found interesting were how El Castillo has the same amount of steps as the amount of days in the calendar (365), and that twice a year on the spring and autumn equinoxes, a shadow is cast in the form of a serpent on El Castillo and moves down the pyramid steps as the sun sets, eventually landing on the serpent statue at the bottom of the staircase. One question I still have about archeology is I wonder what kind of tools archeologists use to find out what time period an artifact is from?

After watching the 4 videos I learned that a pok-a-tok ball is 12 pounds. I also learned that. I also learned twice a year a shadow will appear making it so that a part of the pyramid looks like a snake. I also found that people were thrown into a well for sacrifice and just left there. Somethings I found interesting was that archeologist look for many things like broken pieces of a building instead of just looking for bones. Another thing I found interesting was that the Mayan believed that many gods were controlling different things like the water or sun. One question I have is that why would people be sacrificed for only losing a game of pok-a-tok?

The second thing I learned was they would sacrifice some of the humans by throwing them down the well, and letting them drowned to death. The third thing I learned was if you lost a game of pok-o-tok you would be sacrificed and die. Two thing I found most interesting was one, they use a 12 pound ball for pok-o-tok and their temples and pyramids were 60-80 feet tall. That was two things that I found interesting. One question I still have is why did you have to be sacrificed for pok-o-tok.

The third and final thing I learned when watching the videos is that archeologists used tools that we might use in a garden. Two thing that I thought were interesting is how archeologists dig up and study artifacts from so long ago. The other thing I think is interesting is how much a single artifact can tell us about how the Maya lived. One question I have is if archeologists work in groups or by themselves.

I learned that they use smaller things they use bigger things to dig with they will also use towels to dig with, they investigate the bites and smaller pieces they use this thing called a screen to see the pieces that they find, they put the dirt in there and shake it and it separates the smaller particles the farm was actually part of the plantation was established in 1790 in 1794 they had a french people they had 748 acres total and they had 90 enslaved laborers in their possession. They uncovered just a wide varitey of artifacts. Everything from broken glassware and ceramics to rusty old nails and pieces of hardware lots of food remains, so bones and shell this would've been made likely by one of the enslaved individuals.

Three things I learned in the videos I watched were that Pok-A-Tok was played with a twelve pound ball. I found this interesting, as they have to hit it in such certain places (Hip, Knee, Elbow). Also, I found out that Chichen Itza was one of the last city-states of the Maya left to stand. I also learned that people who we are studying could predict of Solar Eclipses. Something I found interesting is that "The Tower" had three hundred sixty-five steps, the exact number of days in a solar year. Two of these 365 days, a shadow in the shape of a serpent would rest on the side of the tower. As the sun set, it "crawled" down the tower, finally resting next to a structure of a serpent. One thing I wonder is how long have we known about these unique cultures, and how much more do we not have or know?

I learned that the mayan city of Chichen Itza endured even after most other mayan cities were abandoned. The second video told that archeologists used what was called a pan to separate small particles of dirt from artifacts. I also learned that the maya had an advanced understanding of astronomy, and even had an observatory. I find it interesting they used this understanding to build a 365-step pyramid in the perfect location that on the day of the eclipse, the shadow of a serpent would fall on the stairs of the pyramid and adjoin with the serpent's stone head at the base. I also found it interesting that know one really knows what happened to the maya civilization. I do wonder if pok-a-tok players considered it an honor and were willing to be sacrificed, or if players highly avoided it.

After watching the 4 videos 3 things I learned is that people would get thrown into the wells to be sacrificed to the rain god. Also that they use a 12 pound ball to play pok-a-tok and that the pyramid had 365 steps for the 365 day of the year. Two things I found interesting were that the the pyramids that they built were 79 feet tall and that the sun makes a snake 2 days a year. One question I have is that why did the sacrifice people by throwing them in the water?

I learned from the YouTube videos are that people get thrown into waters to get sacrificed for the gods. I also learned that they used 12 pound rubber balls for pok a tok. One more thing I learned is that one of the pyramids they built was 79 feet tall. I think one thing I found intresting is that some people were sacrificed by being thrown into the bodies of water. I also found something most intresting is that the pok a tok ball was 12 pounds. One question I still have about archaeology is how many pyramids have they found?

3.I learned that the maya had a 79 foot pyramid that had 365 steps. I learned that they used a 12 pound ball to play pok a tok they would throw humans in a well to sacrifice them. 2. I'm interested that they throw humans in a well. I'm also interested that people are playing pok a tok with a twelve lb ball. 1. why would they use a well to sacrifice people to the rain gods.

I wonder how many artifacts have been found.

I learned that the Mayan use a 12 pound ball for pok-a-tok, they have a 79 foot tall pyramid that has 365 steps for 365 days! I finally learned that Mayans made observatories and did lots of things with the stars! I find it interesting that Mayans were able to predict solar eclipses. I also find it interesting that archaeologists use something called a screen to help them find artifacts. I still have a question, how did the Mayan manage to predict solar eclipses just using the pattern of the stars?

I learned that the Mayan used a twelve pound ball for a game that they played called pok-a-tok, people used to get thrown in a well to be sacrificed to a rain god,the third thing I learned is that the Mayans had a 79 foot pyramid and the pyramid had 365 steps for each day of their 365 day solar calendar. I think it is extremely interesting that they could predict solar eclipses.Another thing that I found interesting was that they developed a style of hieroglyphics so long ago. I wonder if archaeologists have ever gotten extremely hurt while trying to find the old ruins.
