Cosmos = when everything is in its rightful place (as God intended). Balance/harmony, strength.
Disruption of cosmos = Chaos/disorder/imbalance. Macbeth > examples: An owl eats a falcon, foul weather, night does not give way to day = darkness 24/7). Top: God/angles = spirit. Bottom: Stones = Inanimate matter. Man = centre = spirit AND matter. Thus, he is always in conflict with his reason and his passion (animals). He has the capacity to make the right choices, but the Fall has dimmed his understanding. Danger of making wrong choices. Two beliefs side by side:
a) Free will (humanism/Renaissance)
b) Belief in destiny (providence) - > The fall of man (= loss of innocence) and superstition.
