Active(Manipulative/Observant Examples

Moving to a new state was a good example of an active learning skill for me. I was in a new setting with people i’ve never seen before in my life, therefore i had to adapt to my surroundings. Another good example is when i got locked out of my room the other day with no phone and no shoes on. I had no instruction on what to do and didn’t have a phone to even look up a solution so i had to come up with something on my own. I use a old key card in my kitchen drawer to open my room door back up.

Constructive(Articulative/Reflective)

Learning new things in each grade is a great example of constructive learning. I feel that every year in high school in each subject i learned the same thing just a little bit harder. This means that i could go back and reflect on my past subjects i’ve learned and tie it into the new topic. For example algebra 2 was exactly like algebra 1 just with extra variables. Another example would be going to a sports camp. Sports camps are to perfect your craft therefore you can use what you already know and build on top of that.

Intentional (Goal- Directed/ Regulatory)

College would be an example of Intentional learning. Getting my degree is a goal that i’ve set for myself so therefore i will be driven to learn and do whatever it takes in terms of school to reach this goal. Another example would be a weight lose goal. Most people set a goal because it motivates them to look forward to something. Once they get to that specific weight they will feel accomplished which will show some benefit to that person.

Authentic(Complex/Contextual)

A good example of authentic learning would be life lessons. Life lessons aren’t taught in schools but should be therefore students will be prepared for the real world. Another example would be financial awareness. In personal finance most of the context of financing is stripped away so that the lesson can be about definitions and testing. Instead of actually teaching a student about how to budget and finance money correctly they are writing definitions and doing multiple choice test.

A good example of cooperative learning is being in college. No one in college can hold your hand or force you to do your work like teachers do in elementary school. Another good example is playing a team sport. Everybody’s’ part matters. If someone doesn’t do their part the play won’t work.
