Theosophy stemmed from the mystical construction, combined with European Expressionism which became popular among many of the 20th Century artist. Some of these artists include, Kandinsky, Marc, Munter, Macke, which later formed the Blaue Reiters. Each artists aspired to create abstract versions of their reality, through the use of symbolic colour, geometric forms, abstraction which formed the foundations of Theosophy. These aspects were adopted by the blue rider art movement, who incorporated these ideals into their works to create an ‘ideal’ art that can communicate with the viewer without narration or words in the same way as music. In the words of Kandinsky, “colour is a power which directly influences the soul.”
