The empire experienced less military conflicts when he was the leader, however he was more a dictator than an emperor compared to modern day people. This sparked something inside of him, and he turned Rome into a brutish and violent place. He imagined himself as the hero Hercules and started going into the Colosseum to fight lions and other adversaries. He charged the people money to attend the fights, which made the economy worse. He also hated physically disabled people, and is famous for massacring them in hordes.
