No Child For Sale

http://nochildforsale.ca/

Who founded the organization?
World Vision was founded by a man named Dr. Bob Pierce in China. Dr. Bob Pierce was an American Missionary who founded the organization in Canada in 1950.

Who runs this organization?

The president and chief executive officer of this organization is Dave Toycen. He has received three honorary doctorates, has degrees in both philosophy and divinity and he has been the president of World Vision for the past 18 years.

What is their objective/mission?

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. As followers of Jesus, we are motivated by God’s love to serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

http://www.worldvision.ca/ABOUTUS/Pages/Core-Values.aspx

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective?

In 2013, they launched the No Child for Sale national campaign to raise awareness of Canadians on Child Slavery so that they can help to eliminate it. The campaign reached 1 in every 3 Canadians, encouraging them to spread the word, buy child-labour-free products and press companies and governments to be global leaders in helping to end child slavery.

While child slavery is not an issue that the average Canadian knows a lot about and can easily grasp, we know that Canadians believe that all children deserve to be free from being sold or trafficked into the worst forms of slavery around the world.

http://nochildforsale.ca/impact-statement/

Why are these strategies effective or ineffective?

These strategies are effective because World Vision is spreading awareness about Child Labour, which is making Canadians want to help out by donating money to this organization and by sponsoring children. When Canadians sponsor children who are forced to work, the children get education, health care, and they are not forced to work at such a young age.

How is this organization funded?

World Vision is involved in a variety of fundraising efforts with a goal of raising more money and more awareness about programs that help people living in poverty. When Canadians support World Vision, they can make a bigger impact in the lives of children and families overseas.
World Vision is mostly funded by donations and from their fundraising efforts.

How can you get involved?

There are many ways you can get involved to help stop child labour. You can:

Donate to the organization

Sign a petition to help FIGHT child labour

Sponsor a child

Do some research and learn about the issue and help spread the word

Contact information:
Email: Click HerePhone: 905-565-6100
Toll-free: 1-866-595-5550
Fax: 1-866-219-8620
To protect your privacy and security, please do not fax or email your credit card or banking information.
Mail to:
World Vision Canada
1 World Drive
Mississauga, Ontario
L5T 2Y4
Privacy and SecurityPrivacy Line: 1-800-329-6176 ext. 2713

Give a Compliment: If you have a compliment, please call 1-800-714-3501 or click here.

Share a Concern: If you have a concern, please call 1-800-714-3501 or click here.

http://www.freethechildren.com/

Who founded the organization?

Free the Children was founded in 1995 by Craig Kielburger. The foundation began when one morning at breakfast, he read a newspaper article in Toronto Star, on a 12 year old child labourer being murdered. Craig felt a connection to the article and decided to do more research on child labour. His findings lead him to realize that there were more than 215 million child labourers in the world, many working in slave – like conditions. He took the article to his grade 7 class in Thornhill, Ontario and when he asked for help, eleven classmates put in their lot. Free the Children was born!

Who runs/works for this organization?

Free the Children is still being run by Craig Kielburger, assisted by his brother Mark. However, their organization has not been limited to their 11 classmates from twenty years ago. They now have formed many partnerships with top school boards and leading corporations, including Oprah’s Angel Network, KPMG, and BlackBerry and their organization has worked in more than 45 countries and built more than 650 schools and school rooms in developing communities.

What is their objective?
In Canada, the US, and the UK, Free the Children provides comprehensive programs for service learning and active citizenship. We educate, engage and empower youth in North America, the UK and around the world with the tools, knowledge, confidence and support network to be ambassadors for change and lead meaningful action. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, Free the Children provides a comprehensive child-focused development approach inspired by the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”. We work together with communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America to establish a comprehensive, child-focused development approach that gives all community members the education, skills and opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty—forever.
http://www.freethechildren.com/about-us/our-model/

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective?

Most charities focus on children and young people as the recipients of aid, as problems to be solved. Free The Children believes that youth can be the greatest problem-solvers. Instead of making the world a better place for our children, we know we can make the world a better place with our children. They provide broad service learning programs that inspire and engage schools, families and young people on a lifelong journey to better the world.

The depth of their programming spreads to touch every aspect of youth’s lives:

Youth coordinator support

After-school clubs

In-class curricular resources

Volunteer and fundraising campaigns

Summer leadership camps

Positive celebrity role models

One of the world’s largest social media followings

Why are these strategies effective/ineffective?

Free the Children’s programs have a massive reach, impacting hundreds of thousands of young people each year. Participation in their domestic programming can alter youth value systems, producing transformative change in their lives.

How is this organization funded?

Free the Children's partnerships take many forms—from providing funds and sponsorship, to contributions in-kind and donated services, to program delivery and support. It is together with corporations and donors, schools and education partners, program and media partners that Free the Children's programs come to life.

Corporate partners, sponsors, major donors:

Help keep We Day, campaigns and domestic programming free for educators and youth

Fund Adopt a Village, and fundraise through engaging their employees

Support volunteer engagement to ensure efficiencies and keep administrative cost low

Expand their reach in engaging more people and carry programming to new markets

Carry out research, development and invest in new areas of programming

Media partners:

Help carry news about Free The Children and social issues to communities across Canada

Educational and program partners:

Serve as vehicles to support program delivery, and endorse access to educators and schools

Contribute expertise to Free the Children's program design

Provide them with access to content, talent and resources that enrich the content of We Day events

On average, half of Free The Children’s funding comes from direct contributions and in-kind support generated by young people (bake sales, walk-a-thons, garage sales and coin drives, etc.). Meanwhile, about half of our funding comes from generous adult donors (individuals, foundations, corporations and government).
How can you get involved?

There are many ways that you can get involved in Free the Children's campaign to stop child labour a few of these ways include:

We Day

Communicate your brand promise with a passionate and engaged audiences.

Use We Day as a platform to achieve key corporate social responsibility objectives by tying marketing to social causes.

Leverage this platform to communicate the issues that your company is passionate about.

Rally employees around a unifying cause.

Encourage employees participate in unique volunteer opportunities at We Day events across Canada.

Gain exposure through We Day’s extensive social networks and broadcasts.

Associate your brand with an impressive roster of world-renowned celebrities, activists and global business leaders.

Youth Empowerment Programming

Free The Children’s youth empowerment programming helps form the attitudes and priorities of young people, motivating and empowering them to take positive action.

www.AChildaDay.ca

Who runs/works for this organization?

Regina Harder is the president of this organization and is assisted by Allison Wiebe. Regina and Allison started A Child A Day 10 years ago after they were introduced to child labourers while on vacation. This first hand interaction with such innocent, hopeful kids has driven them to both raise awareness and funds to help kids around the world retrieve their childhood. Under their leadership, many schools, businesses and families have partnered with them in hoping to rid the world of child labour and its casualties.

What is their objective/mission?

To influence public policy on child labor issues through an increased understanding of the impact of work on children’s health, the quality of their lives, and their ability to produce effectively in jobs as adults, as well as increase recognition of how child labor exploitation reinforces and promotes poverty, adult unemployment, poor living standards, low literacy rates, and lax enforcement of labor regulations;

To give children in poor environments a Christ-Centered place of refuge, encouragement and learning

To work for strengthened protections, guarding youth from excessive, inappropriate, and hazardous labor;

To advocate for better enforcement of child labor laws and regulations, including devising and encouraging innovative ways to ensure employer compliance;

To educate the public, business, and governments to broaden awareness and understanding about the nature of child labor exploitation in the United States and other countries, and how it differs from legitimate and positive youth employment

To raise awareness towards child labour, and through donations and other funds, create safe homes and learning environments for victims of child labour. In addition, they continue to create safe working environments, and appropriate wages and times for young adults to work

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective?

In the past 4 years, they have set up 8 schools for children who have been freed from child labour to receive education, and they have funded many homes for children to live in and build better lives, rather than forced to work. They are also trying to raise awareness to the public, and to do that, they send a few representatives to schools across Canada to tell students about child labour, its consequences and how they can help. And for the rest of the country A Child A Day has commissioned many cross-country fundraisers and a few commercials that are aired across Canada.

How are these strategies effective or ineffective?

These strategies have proved to be effective because of the results. Many children overwhelm the schools everyday. Eager to learn and participate in different activities and school work that the teachers provide. The schools could only operate because of the funding that comes in, not just through our business sponsors, but the communities committed to support this noble cause. Raising awareness through schools and television has only increased the amount of enthusiasm and response to A Child a Day's call to support them in ridding child labour.

How is this organization funded?

This organization has many areas where funds are coming in, some of these include:

Donations

Coorporate Sponsors

How can you get involved?

There are quite a few ways you can get involved in A Child A Day organization.
