Is the new English model vastly different for senior grades. As the English model and new curriculum are very similar to what is already happening in Foundation. We have an integrated Literacy block and do not teach subjects separately?

They fit together well. It was a little tricky with some of the speaking and listening focused content descriptors but we had great discussion about this. I love how the curriculum is more specific.

The planning model helps to clarify where/how content from the curriculum is covered in the classroom.

You can see how a lot of the content descriptors cover most of the English Model areas. Most of the curriculum descriptors came up in text-level reading and text-level writing.

The 2.0 curriculum fits nicely across all 8 areas of the planning model. Structure of the content descriptors and the wording makes it much clearer to understand.

It can be difficult to separate the content descriptors into only one or two areas. We will need to be extra careful to remember speaking and listening when planning as this area isn't specifically mentioned in the new English planning model.

The two curriculums are similar in their structure. The new English curriculum integrates the different parts of literacy altogether across all eight areas of the planning model.

How will this work with assessing based on this curriculum long term? (Will it eventually change to assessing on the strands- language, literature and literacy - or will we keep assessing to Reading, Writing and Speaking)

The Planning Model doesn't allow for conscious inclusion of Speaking and Listening, while this is something that features clearly in the curriculum.

Many aspects of the curriculum cover almost all areas of planning model, so we needed to tune our focus in on what was the most important for each.

Some content descriptors are really specific and will not be taught incidentally. We must ensure we are specifically planning for these descriptors (e.g. composition of images in picture books) as these will not be covered otherwise.

We were able to fine tune what areas of the English Planning Model are a focus for each descriptor and it painted a picture/mapped them out visually. The model fits in very well with the new curriculum and helped us see how it relates to what we already do.
