Oromis was telling Eragon why he doesn't eat meat. He discusses the importance of life and that it is unnecessary to kill for food when there are berries and other things that can be eaten. Eragon listened to the elf's advise, and he stopped eating meat.- The life lesson is that we should value the importance of life. This affected the character because it caused him to stop eating meat.

AHA! MOMENT- When a character realizes, understands, or finally figures something out.
MEMORY MOMENT- When the author interrupts the action to tell you a memory.
TOUGH QUESTION- When a character is confused or uncertain, they may ask him/herself a really difficult question.
CONTRASTS & CONTRADICTIONS- Look for the unexpected.
