         <description><![CDATA[<div>  The act forbid all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.<br><br> The British passed this act because the British did not want American colonists crossing the Appalachian Mountains and creating tension with the French and Native Americans.<br><br>  The colonists ignored and opposed the Proclamation of 1763.<br><br></div>]]></description>
