I believe that the author would want the reader to learn that: 
1. It's okay to not be able to accept the fact that we're all going to die eventually. You just have to have a positive outlook on it. 
2. You shouldn't focus on materialistic things as it's only a waste of time basically. 
3. Not everything is always in our control. Sometimes we just have to accept the outcome of a situation and move on. 
4. Not to dwell on the past. You can't change the things you did or didn't do, and there's no point of continuing to focus on it. 
5. There is no such thing as "too late" in life. Anything is possible at any time. -I think one thing Ernest Hemingway would want the reader to learn from reading this book, is that we all die one day, and that we should not wait to do the important things we want to do in life, like falling in love.

-He would also want the reader to learn to accept people for who they are and not to have hatred towards anyone for simply living their life.

-Hemingway would also want the reader to learn to stand up for something that they believe in, Robert Jordan, was fighting a war that his country really did not have anything to do with, he just believed in what they were fighting for. 

-Another lesson to be taken from the book, is to not be afraid to fall in love. Maria is very cautious and skeptical of Roberts promises of love and life at first, but then realizes that it could all come true and really lets herself fall for him.

-Hemingway would also want the readers to learn a lesson about having a moral compass. In the novel Robert Jordan, is presented with the option of killing Pablo, the leader of the guerrilla unit. - Don't take life for granted. We live a very comfortable life, but there is no guarantee of tomorrow and it can always be worse. He is navigating a post-apacolyptic world with his young son, with no steady supply of food and not even a comfortable place to sleep at night.

- Never give up. No matter how bad it seems, keep pushing. The Man could have easily just accepted the easy route by dying, but he keeps pushing towards his objective of reaching a warmer climate, which he believes is the best chance at survival for his son.

- Survival skills, especially in the colder climates. The spend a lot of the novel in northern colder climates, which is troublesome especially because their only source of heat is their clothes and maybe a fire they can make.

- The difference between good and evil. There is a constant struggle of morality, what makes someone good or evil? The Man is teaching us, along with his son, that they are the good guys and shows us examples of evil when they run into cannibals and looters. 

- The importance maintaining a strong relationship with your child. Even though the world around them has fallen apart, The Man's drive to make sure his son is safe and is loved is immeasurable. 1. Life is a gift, you don't know how long you have, so you much cherish the small things as well as the big. 
2. Love is what is most important. The love for others, the love for the simple things that are often over looked. 
3. How to express your emotions. Its okay to cry its okay to feel anger/sadness/ guilt.. If you love someone, show that. Mitch showed his love for Morrie by touch, which he knew Morrie would appreciate. 
4. accepting death. everyone is going to die, and in order to die, you must live. 
5. Materialistic things are not of the greatest importance.  You cannot bring those when you go. 2. Survival. The father of of the main character teaches him the very important value of the survival instincts for humans and animal. The main character survivals a long journey with a tiger to not for survival and not dying without a companion.
3. Culture. The author exposes the reader to diverse culture by talking about Indian and Canadian culture.
4. Wildlife. The character shows the reader how life matters for both humans and animals. 
5. Nature. Shows the reader how the character is exposed to unimaginable conditions in an unforgiving sea.

3. He wanted people to know that kindness towards yourself is equally as important when giving it to others.
4. That taking a stand in what you believe in is important in life. Because near the end of life, there's always some regrets.

2. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone will keep you alive. Pi had a hard time adapting to the "unethical" aspects that come with survival. In the end, though he gets over this fear and chooses survival over his morals.
3. Having a routine can build a sense of structure, especially in hard times.
4. Always have a plan. In Pi's case, keeping constant plans revolving around Richard Parker is what kept him alive. 
5. Put trust in yourself and the decisions you make. This is a big one that Pi struggled with as he had to make the big decision to either keep Richard Parker alive or somehow get rid of him.
