I ring the doorbell and wait for them to freeze, eyes on me, and silent. Then I say, "When I say the magic word (written on the board) we will put our readers away, books away, pencils away, line up quietly. I should see everyone in line with eyes forward, hands down, mouths. Say the magic word then start counting down from 10.

When I call your group, I want you to grab your backpack and take it to your desk. After that I would like you to pack up and pick up any trash. Then push in your chair throw the trash away and walk to the line quietly.

Attention grabber - "Class, Class." with student response being "Yes, Yes."
We will be practicing our counting of number up to 20 from 1.
Step 1 - is get with a partner and bring your number line model. Step 2 - find a place on the carpet that both you and your partner fit comfortably. Step 3 - rock, paper scissors to see who will start. Step 4 - One partner will start counting with the number 1 and your partner will alternate counting up until you get to 20. If you get stuck your partner may help you. Step 5 - Once this is completed, have the other person start the count again.
