1) We made contact with our resource person. His name is Ned Flanders and he has the following quote, "compost is the most awesome material that has ever been conceived, to make it you mix 60% browns and 40% greens." His contact info is 706-499-POOP and ned_poop@ung.edu. 2) Our data for our project is a list of compostable materials from Chow Hall which includes: salad bar waste, vegetable trimmings and coffee grounds measured on 2 days using spring scales. The data will be organized according to compost type and lbs. 3) Upon completion of the project we will submit our results to Ned Flanders and his four employees, ARAMARK, and Gerald Sullivan of Auxilary Services. We hope they may separate these materials and make them available to local farmers for composting.

We have contacted Residence Life (residencelife@ung.edu) and emailed them specifically asking them to forward our survey to all suites residents. As well as that we have contacted our three specific RA's and their names are Grant Hill, Megan Eslinger, and Kathrine Maloof. We have completed a waste audit and the data that we have is how full the recycling bin was before our posters. We also brought in data about the percentage of recyclable objects within the trash bins. We will be presenting this data on a pie chart. Our target audience is the residence of the NG Suites as well as the RA's. The RA's are instrumental because if the Suites can show positivities, it could spill over into the other residence halls. The posters that we will be posting will have our final results and pie charts that will hopefully influence recycling.

Resource person: The first people we contacted was Auxiliary Services, specifically Parking and Transportation services. From there we were sent to Beverly Martin. Beverly is the Parking and Transportation Manager. When we emailed Beverly, April Robinson with Parking Services responded asking for specific questions we were asking so that she could give us any answers that Parking Services had on file or recorded. We are still waiting to hear back with the information regarding our questions. We asked the following questions.

-What is the gas efficiency of the current shuttle busses, some specifics in miles per gallon, and average miles driven per week and per day?

-Do the buses have a set route every day? What is that route if there is one, and if not, do they have set stops on and off campus?

- Do you have a rough idea of how many students ride the shuttles total a day or week?

Beverly Martin- Parking and Transportation Manager

Email: Beverly.Martin@ung.edu

Phone: 706-864-1697

April Robinson- Staff Associate at Parking Services Dahlonega

Email: april.robinson@ung.edu

Phone: 706-864-1697

Data: We will use data from auxiliary services about the current bus systems and MPG, we are going to use a mapping app to show different routes that bus systems currently sues and routes we believe will be more efficient. We will also use our survey to show how many people will be wiling use the shuttle if it came to their apartment complex. Our survey will ask questions such as which how many times they drive to campus per week. How long they spend searching for parking, if a shuttle were to come to your apartment complex would you ride it.

Target Audience: The target audience for the proposed changes and improvements to our shuttle system here at the University of North Georgia will be the manager for parking and transportation services, Beverly Martin, the Implementation Steering Committee of our University, lead by Dr. Janet Marling, and the owners of the apartment complexes that we will input new Shuttle pickups in, Dahlonega Rental Properties, managed and operated by Roberta Green. Our audience includes these parties because for Auxiliary services to input changes into the current system, it would need the approval of financial input into the system, approval from the Implementation Steering Committee, and from the owners of the two apartment complexes that these pickups will be located. Our final target audience will be the students riding these shuttles, because in the end, the participation in these suggested systems will determine if the changes remain in place or not. We hope these suggestions improve the systems of transportation here at the University, and will promote the growth of the student body through the availability of space and freedom of movement on campus, and around Dahlonega.

1) The first resource person we contacted to get some insight on current residence hall recycling was a Resident Assistant in the Commons, Daniel Brown, who also was the former president of the environmental club. We asked if any of his residents questioned him on recycling, or if he had told them about recycling when they moved in. He stated "they haven't asked, but they have been informed on where to take it and what to recycle." This will be beneficial to see if the information on where recycling is on campus RA's give to their residents is a factor that will increase how much residents recycle, and if RA's are required to inform residents. Daniel Brown, Resident Assistant, 770-655-7762, djbrown@ung.edu
2) Choosing a cost effective recycling bin, and we will display the costs of how much it will be to have one in each room on campus in a chart.
-Collecting data on the costs of recycling and trash pick up for residence halls now, to how much it would be with a new bin, and the amount of money that could be saved in the future. This information will be displayed in a table.
- Finding an adhesive paint that is also cost-effective and can be painted on recycling bins to promote the location of where recycling needs to be taken.

3) Our target audience for our project is Residence Life, specifically the Director of residence life, Treva Smith, who will be able to inform us on the recycling program in the dorms, and at the end of our research and data collection we will hopefully be able to propose a plan to Res Life about a uniform recycling approach that is cost effective for the university. We hope by going through residence life that residents will in turn be more prone to recycle by being aware of locations of bins and having better bins available to them.

Our project will take place as follows: First we will identify the bare areas that still need some work, which we have done. Next, we will get into contact with Mr. Hyams to find out how we can go about implementing our plan. We will then get a few loads of organic leaf matter, grass seed, and tools needed to sew new grass. Once we have all of the materials, we will then implement our project. We will take photos before and after we perform our project to see how well the area looks once we have finished. We will also be doing some research on why organic leaf matter makes for a better medium for the new grass to grow, as opposed to other materials.

3. Abbey said that she is able to help us get in contact with more Chow employees to get more information. We have had a short discussion with her during lunch on Friday.
2. We will measure how much waste Chow produces during food preparation that can be composted by weighing it, as well as finding ways to use compost at UNG and/or in Dahlonega.
3. Our target audience is Robert Christian, as well as other upper management employees at Chow. We hope that this study will allow for Chow to make more eco-friendly decisions on waste management.

We will then calculate how much water we could harvest with minimal investment and use it cut down on city water usage and how much money the school can save annually. Also, we will show how this can be implemented on a larger scale and can be used when new buildings are constructed.
3) Our target office would be:
Micheal Bodri - he is the dean of sciences and mathematics. This would directly impact his department nd allow his department to have more environmental samples to study, not just what a weather machine on the roof reads off.
Bonita Jacobs - the president of the school supports it enough she can be the one who will give a green light on implementing the system on a larger scale and in new buildings.
Facilities - would possibly provide more job opportunities with someone to manage this new system if were to be used on a large scale.
