George Washington had quick decision making skills. He ordered the troops to block Cornwallis' incase they left by land and the French blocked the sea. Along with this 2,500 Continental troops in New York met with 4,000 French troops and came together. George Washington was a good leader he would make a call and the troops would do just that, like soldiers are supposed to.

The British leadership was not nearly as good as the American. The British sat there in Yorktown while George Washington worked to get them surrounded. The troops fought back until October 17 when they surrendered. For the surrendering ceremony on the 19th Charles Cornwallis pleaded illness so the second in command took the sword to the American and French.

George Washington let Clinton believe he was goin to be attacked but in reality the troops were heading south. George Washington and French Allies moved their forces to join 12,000 other militia. A French fleet commander engaged a British fleet trying to assist the British soldiers in Yorktown. This left Cornwallis isolated and vulnerable. The siege exhausted the British army’s supplies of food and ammunition.
https://www.battlefields.org/learn/revolutionary-war/battles/yorktown

https://www.nps.gov/york/learn/historyculture/history-of-the-siege.htm
