it is important because it is a better word to show just how angry he is.

HUMMOCK 
definition: a hillock, knoll, or mound.
"pointed it at a dirt hummock, and ..."(Paulsen 118). its important because it describes the landscape. 

CRUDELY 
definition: in a rudimentary or makeshift way. 
"The wall was placed-- crudely, but he could improve it later"(Paulsen 151).
its important because it tells the reader that the wall isn't great but it'll do.
