         <description><![CDATA[<div>This area is beyond the reach of light penetration. Very deep water, and is usually below the thermocline, where the temperature will drop very rapidly. In north temperature latitudes where winters are harsh, this part of the lake or pond is the warmest and in the summer it is the coldest. Animals in the zone are bacteria, fungi, blood worms, small clams, and phantom larvae. </div>]]></description>
