The thing that reminds me of TKAM the most was that everyone took a lying white person's word over a black person who is speaking the truth. This is shown when Mayella says that Tom raped her and everyone was furious but not at her but at Tom. This is also shown in the stories when the author mentions that all of the blacks are being punished because of a lie.

In an article called "Southern Horrors" deals with topics that many would not have dealt with at the time. "Southern Horrors" was written by an African American journalist, suffragist, and sociologist named Ida Bell Wells. Her article talked about the horror's of the south; false 🤬 claims of white women, lynching of black men, the injustice of the south, and ect. But the one thing that will stay in your head is the false 🤬 claim by Mrs. J.S. Underwood. She claimed that a young black man by the man of William Offett. He was found guilty by jury. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, until the woman addicted to faking the 🤬 claim. Her husband divorced her and sent Mr. Offett free.

This article can be related to TKAM because it talks about how people would lie about being raped just so they don't look bad to other people. This is very similar to Toms case.

The most shocking part of this story is that it explains how black people were killed just for being accused of raping white women, they were never on a fair trial and either way if they were innocent they would kill them no matter what. It also explains how different they would react when a white women was raped vs. when a Afro-American women was raped. White people would get a shorter sentence of jail than a black man even if they were found guilty, if a black man was found innocent they would instantly kill him.
