In irony, Area 51 is the not-so-secret secret of America's Military Bases. Located in the barren Nevada Desert, this country has taken advanced of the the empty, quiet desert of Nevada in effort to establish a heavily military guarded building in what was supposed to be in secret. Built in the late 1960s, this area has workers sworn to secrecy to discover and probe into the country's deepest secrets without the sharing of knowledge towards the general population.

In 1984, Orwell portrays the danger of having censorship and information control towards the population by having the main protagonist, Winston Smith work in the Records Department in the Ministry of Truth. In which Smith has to rewrite and distort past history that is being released to the hands of the population into the liking of the tyranny. Having an area built for the known cause to keep in secrets from the general public allows the government to be able to store and release information. This gives them the power to control what will be said and released and have most likely been edited in some sort prior.

We as the general population should be concerned about classified truths as they can lead to blunt ignorance. Aspects of Orwell's novel portrayed the framework of our society today. These days, everyone seems to think that they have a mind of their own, but do we really? Our government allows us to have the so called, Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion, Assembly and Choice. This leads to massive protests, affirmative actions and all sorts of rebellion. But within these works, one person is influencing another. Whether this is through word, action, pity or force, people can be simply be manipulated and be taken control of. We have created an ideal world in which a government has the upper hand. In which it only took one person to be convinced by the lies of the officials to gather and influence the mind of a crowd. In social media we have almost at every app, an option to write captions, and thus, the world of hashtags was born. This is a photograph with the most famous hashtags used throughout social media during the August of 2015. Hashtags are much like an intangible folder on the internet that holds and stored files and data publicly for all to see. This allows the spread of such words to help a cause in various ways. With the help of media and trending events and uprisings, the use of hashtags have become an advertisement and influence in itself. 

In the novel, you can say Orwell created 3 very well known "hashtags":
#WARISPEACE
#FREEDOMISSLAVERY
#IGNORANCEISSTREGTH
He uses these sayings to permanently poison Orwellians into thinking that way. By using a simple saying, it is easier to remember and understand. This becomes the base of their system in which Big Brother gets to control the population which as we know is by the bending and masking of the truth.

We as the population whom are capable of what we say although not much by what we think should put it to good use. By influencing one another, we may go off course and end up fighting for the wrong. Hashtags are a way to make things trendy and popular and that is exactly what we should be afraid of. Nowadays its so easy to influence people in and out of opinions which will soon lead to the downfall of our land.

This is a video gone viral in the grounds of Saudi Arabia. This video can be quite disturbing as it shows men hanging dead on a crane for public gruesome punishment. Posted online, the video became viral as it found its way to television screens and social media. To be punished in such an inhumane way, we can only guess the crimes those people had to commit. These men not only hang dead, but also serve as a dead warning to the public to avoid going against the system. 

Much like in the novel, 1984, George Orwell has created the event the "public hanging" in which citizens come out to watch for pure and utter enjoyment. It was changed so that these public hangings were something to be celebrated. These citizens went on life knowing that if they were to do wrong, they were to be punished sinfully, much like the people in Saudi Arabia. 

We as people should fear the higher power as they ultimately have control over us. We allow them to control us as we like to believe that they will only do good, but there is always a yin to the yang. To allow such brutal punishment only forces the public to conform to the rules given as we know what will happen if we don't. Living in a very influential generation, social media has become a huge necessity in order to live. It has managed to become useful in all fields of life. In others, it has become their way of life. Internet influencers take their lifestyles and share it to the world via social media to help influence and advertise businesses, opportunities and opinions. 

Since most of the population has access to social networks, it isn't a surprise that businesses has turned to celebrities to help advertise and broaden brands and opinions. In 1984, Orwell showed this simple propaganda on every corner Orwellians looked. Wherever Winston looked, he could find a poster of Big Brother staring right at him. This intimidated citizens into doing the right by following the Big Brother's commands and expectations. Similar to advertisements, citizens are expected the same as people are the followers.

We should care about this heavy mass media control as it continue to influence our generation in numerous ways that stay hidden such as trends and news. Although it is pretty sleek, powerful figures in our country cannot simply get away with controlling the general population through simple likes of interest, they can't take that away too. We must affect each other not for exploitation but for the better.

This is a recent article just last month written as a controversy about Kathy Griffin, an American actor, stand up comedian and talk show host having to face punishment for the lack of censorship. Her career went downhill when she posted a gory photo of Donald Trump's decapitated head. In response, CNN has fired her immidently where she used to co-host. A simple photograph would not have had this strong of a reaction if it wasn't our country's leading figure.

To an extent actions such as these indicate clear power and control of the press. Similar to how people mysteriously "disappeared" in 1984, Kathy Griffin disappeared from television screens as she is not to be heard from again. Its shown to be easy to exterminate poisonous people in a government controlled world. This gives media the power to filter what is being said in screens to further control our minds into thinking what we think. We can't have a non-conformist working as a news broadcaster as they will denounce the wrongful acts of the world, the main thing that the government clearly wants us to avoid seeing.

We should care about this censoring of facts as it ultimately plans out a way for the public to be told such controlled information.
