Night after night, the father would tuck his son into bed and make sure his son fell asleep before he did, knowing very well that if he didn’t fall asleep first, he would never go back to bed. However, that night, everything changed. Their house was old and creaky and the smell of mold was imminent, as the floorboard creaked… and creaked… and creaked. This could be heard all throughout the house. When bedtime came, the father’s son was drowning in fear. He pleaded to stay up all night, because the noise kept him up. The father looked at the cracked and blotchy walls, old from neglect, and agreed. He stayed with the boy sitting by his side, but the father fell asleep first, so the boy was all by himself. The boy was pale as a sheet, eyes red as blood, trying to stay up. The creaking grew louder and louder as the closet door opened. Inside was an old wrinkly man death starring at him with his eyes pitch black almost as if their was nothing inside him—just the smell of death. The boy leaped out of bed, then screamed at the top of his lungs; “dad! Dad! Wake up!” But the dad didn’t move an inch. It was like moving a boulder. As the boy looked up, he froze. The old man crept forward, still starring at him with lifeless eyes. The noise grew, with the murmuring of people coming from outside and ringing in the ears. The boy slammed his bedroom door and darted to the backyard. As the old man followed, the boy began to shriek, but as he turned around, he saw the man standing right in front of him, breathing down his face as his scream rang out at the strike of midnight.
