Claudius was proven to be an efficient emperor as he expanded the Roman empire and constructed things like aqueducts, ports, canals and roads. Though he didn't cause much drama throughout his reign, his death was not by natural causes, but instead murder by poison. Agrippina, Claudius's' fourth wife, convinced him to have Nero be his heir, opposed to his biological son Britannicus. Eventually, she wanted him gone, so she fed him poisonous mushrooms which killed him. Nero was emperor for 14 years after that. I chose Claudius because I thought the way he died was really interesting and the fact that he was so easily convinced to let Nero be heir.

Constantine I held power as Roman Emperor in the 4th Century from 306-337 AD. He was the first Christian Emperor in Rome and known as the "Last Great Emperor". Wanting to restore morality in Rome, he encourages the practice of Christian religion and shuts the Coliseum down. These attempts did not change anything in Rome. When barbarians later came to surface in Northern Rome, he found him and his army outnumbered. Remarkably, they won fighting against the attacks. This made Constantine realize that Rome needed better defense for attacks, so to fix this, he had to split the Roman Empire. He built a new city called "Constantinople" in hopes that this could become the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. I chose Constantine because the eyes in the statue above really caught my attention!

He was made coruler with his father in 177. He worked with his father to invade parts of Germany, but after his father's death, he ceased to continue to invade. However, his rule became vicious after the retaliation he executed against a group of senators after a failed assassination attempt. While political uprise spread through Rome, Commodus was losing his sanity and renamed Rome Colonia Commodiana after himself. This led to him being taken out of power by being strangled to death in 192.

Caracalla became co-ruler with his father Septimius Severus before taking power in 211 CE with his brother. He is known for giving Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the empire. He is also known to be one of the most unattractive individuals to rule rome as emperor. He is described as cruel, capricious, and murderous. Caracalla was also known for his colossal baths. Although he did give citizenship to the free he also collected higher tax revenue for the state. His priority was always given to the Roman army sharing hardship with soldiers which led to popularity with his army. He was assassinated by Macrinus on 217 CE. I picked him because although he wasn't the best Emperor, he set an example on what not to be and demonstrated how being a bloodthirsty tyrant resulted in being the reason for the decaying of the roman empire.

As emperor, Vespasian worked hard to bring back law, order, and self-respect to Rome. He had come from humble origins as his father was a roman knight and his mother was a tax collector. During his reign as emperor, he was famously known for founding the Flavian dynasty, which ruled the Roman empire between 69 and 96 AD. Throughout this period, great building projects, successful wars and some bad events had occurred. For example, one of the greatest creations made during the Flavian dynasty was the Colosseum, which was built by Vespasian, himself.

Vespasian was a Roman emperor who was fourth and last emperor from the Year of the Four Emperors. He reigned from AD 69 to 79. Vespasian founded the Flavian dynasty that ruled the Empire for 27 years. The Flavian dynasty is known for its construction program. His reforms and consolidation of the empire created political stability, and his dynasty created an extensive building and construction program. I chose Vespasian because he brought Rome great help and was very influential to Romans.

Vespasian was a Roman emperor that succeded the tyrant Nero and led the city to a new and more prosperous era. He ruled between 69-79 AD and is most well known for starting the construction of the Flavian amphitheater, which is known today as the coliseum. He is also credited in reviving Rome after the long and destructive civil war.

Elagabalus was the Roman Emperor from years 218-222. He was certainly on the negative end when it comes to Rome's emperors, which provided him with much of his fame. It did not help that he took power at quite a young age. Elagabalus was part of an Arab family from Syria, and he spent some time as head priest of Elagabal, the sun god. The young teenager started towards his time of rule when his cousin died, and a war, started by his Grandmother, broke out against his cousin's successor. Elagabalus was 14 years of age when this occurred. During his time of rule, he was found to disrespect Roman religious views, and he had questionable sexual relations. Some religious disrespect stemmed from forcing his beliefs on others. Elagabalus even went so far to switch Jupiter with the deity Elagabal, which government officials were forced to worship. Some oddities to do with his romantic life are his many wives, speculation of sexual relations with many men, and even prostituting himself. Among those things, Elagabalus was an overall bad leader, not because he was a tyrant, but because he carried out many psychotic acts, which is why I found interest in researching him.

Constantine was in power of Rome as an emperor from 3006-337 A.D. He was known and the last great emperor and the first emperor to convert Rome to christianity. He tried to prevent the fall of rome by shutting the coliseum to restore morality into rome. He had very little success with these attempts even with the good intent behind them. After that Constantine led the Roman army into battle against barbarians, where he defeated them. The night before the battle he apparently saw a giant cross in the sky and it promised him victory if they carried christianity into the battle. I chose Constantine because the story of the flaming cross was very interesting to me.

Vespasian was a Roman emperor who founded the Flavian dynasty and ruled for 27 years, with him resigning in 69 AD. The Flavian dynasty made such a great impact on Rome because it was a construction period, with creations like the coliseum being made. I chose Vespasian because he made such an impact on Rome and was miles better than the previous Emperor Nero. He revived the city of Rome in a sense by coming out of civil war and a hierarchy of poor emperors, to reconstruct the city into one of the best versions of itself.

At a young age Alexander showed great signs of intelligence and was very athletic, in fact he was tutored by the great Aristotle. His father, Philip ll, was assassinated putting Alexander in power at the age of 20. Alexander wanted to carry out his father's goals and destroy the Persian empire. In 333 B.C. Alexander invaded Persia with the blessing of the Oracle. He marched through Asia Minor unbattled until the battle of Issus. At the battle of Issus Alexander meets Darius lll for the first time. At this battle Darius fled the battle field abandoning his forces, wife, and mother, instead of harming Darius's mother and wife, Alexander gave the wife to a close general of his and made the mother his own. Alexander ruled his empire in a peaceful manner and controlled the largest empire the world had ever seen. Alexander died of Malaria and his empire was fought over until the Romans came and conquered it.

Trajan - Aria Pigatt

Trajan was a very successful Roman emperor during his reign from 98 to 117 CE. He came into power after Nerva passed, and was loved by the people of Rome for 19 years. He was a trailblazer, in that he was not from Italy. He was Spanish and was not the last emperor to come from another country. While he is in power, he does an amazing job of bettering the city of Rome. He does everything he can to undo the damage done by previous emperors. He redesigned the Pantheon to include the world's largest concrete dome and established good relations with the Senate. Trajan was also very concerned with the welfare of the public and spent a lot of time making sure the people were taken care of. He cared for poor children and updated Rome's infrastructure. Under Trajan's rule, roads were updated, bridges and aqueducts were built, and public baths became more frequent around the city. Trajan was not only a good diplomat but also an amazing warrior. He battled the same region twice and won both times. This is the reason why he was able to expand the territory of the Roman Empire to its furthest limits. I chose Trajan because he was able to restore the Roman people's faith in their emperor, even if it was only for the duration of his reign.

He was unable to gain popularity with the people of Rome, so he was assassinated by Otho. He had many health issues and was unfit for the role of emperor. He originally declined the offer of power, but no one else was left in Nero's bloodline, so he had to accept. He died January 15, 69 AD.

Elagabalus was an Roman Emperor who ruled from 218-222 AD. He was born in Syria and came to power when he was just 14 years old. We is best known for attempting to change Rome's official religion to a Religion called the worship of Elagabalus. The religion was based off a syrian god named, "Elagabal" and the God was meant to replace Jupiter. His reign soon came to an end when he was 18 due to his assassination, on March 11, 222. Elagabalus' grandmother has coordinated his assassination, but the Praetorian Guards executed his assassination. After he was killed the Praetorian Guards dragged his naked body through Rome, and he was later replaced by his cousin. I picked this roman emperor because I belied the was he was assassinated was something extremly uncommon being that hid own Grandmother planned his death.
