Before going into guided reading groups, I have a mini-lesson with the whole class where I remind them of our goals and previous strategies as well as teach them a new one. Today we learned about syllable. Chunking words into syllables can help tackle long words and uncover their meaning. Lot's of clapping today!!!

During the group reading we have been using these as discovery sessions, listening out to how the children are reading and trying to figure out where we will place them into strategy groups the following week. Our plan has been then to swap the children over, so we can listen to them again and regroup them according to their needs. Now I think take a step back sometimes, have a recap lesson. Make sure to mix it up with a whole variety of groups and reading ways. 

My next step is to make sure to regularly have a recap/free read/share reading lesson where I listen and jump in.

Now I think I will lean more in to the visual decoding, recognising the needs of the pupils and seeing what they need in terms of their next reading step.
