Minni and Faiza are two 12 year old girls from Mumbai whose community has always had limited access to clean drinking water.  One day Sanjay, Minnis' older brother and his friend Amit get mixed up with a powerful water mafia boss, which leads to much trouble causing them to be sent away. Shortly after, Minnis' mom Rohini falls ill with a disease. It turns out Rohini is bedridden. Minnis is forced to step up and take care of her moms responsibilities and job. Minni befriends the daughter of the family she's

 working for but then something big happens. Minni reveals a deep secret about the family she's working for which ends up with Minni having to make a big decision. Her and her best friend Faiza are left with this disaster in their hands.

Varsha grew up in Mumbai, India and moved to America to get her masters degree and eventually moved to Houston, Texas. Varsha was inspired to write Thirst after working in a health center in a neighborhood quite similar to Minnis. Limited water access was a problem that is most likely worse to this day. After figuring out that over 700 million people didn't have access  to clean water I decided that this story had to be told. She chose to wright thirst because she wanted to raise awareness for all the people in the world who don’t have clean drinking water.

I chose community cause I thought In thirst there is lots of community even though some people don’t have a lot of money they are rich in community. Throughout the book Minni is supported by her community. They supported her when her brother left,when her mother was sick and had to leave and even when Minni has a job faiza helps her get through her mothers job and helps her catch one of the people in the water mafia  . A scene that i really liked was the scene where Shanti asked Minni if she wanted extra help after class to help her then when Minnis stomach grumbles Shanti gives her a sandwich. I liked this scene because I thought it truly shows how supportive Minnis community is.
