Period 1 Areas of Change in America by Kyna Collins

Write your name. Choose 2 different "Areas of Change" and write a few sentences specific issue that needs to be addressed. Avoid generalities like "water pollution" and try to pinpoint a more specific issue such as "the quality of water on and near Indian reservations in South Dakota". For each entry, include a link to a source. Don't focus too much on the category if you get stuck, these are all intersectional. You are limited to issues within the United States. Think local, state, and national!

Once you have posted your 2 "Areas of Change" look through the other posts and pick three other areas to "love" if you agree with that idea.

There has been over centuries of industrial works created by Human beings in different eras. But with the production of new inventions and new materials comes at the cost exponential fossil fuel usage. The burning of coal to make energy has caused greenhouse gasses like CO2 and other harmful chemicals to be emitted into the atmosphere. This has caused widespread global temperatures to warm up 1.1 degrees Celsius which has harmed many ecosystems. This has hurt much wildlife (i.e. grizzly bears and wolves) causing mass extinctions and population decreases. A study conducted by
EPA. Gov states, "Temperatures are rising, snow and rainfall patterns are shifting, and more extreme climate events – like heavy rainstorms and record high temperatures – are becoming more common. Many of these observed climate changes are linked to rising levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, caused by human activities."

I strongly believe that there should be somehow a stronger form of security at schools. To me it's horrible that teens are finding ways to already have access to drugs and weapon, and then they bring it to school without getting caught. According to Safe and Sound Security "since 2016 students aged between 12-18 have experienced 749,400 victimizations at school and 601,300 victimizations away from school." How are we letting that happen? We need to find a way to make school a safer space and create more time for learning instead of doing crimes to survive.

One of the most recent school shootings happened near Benito Juarez High School in Chicago. Two students were killed, while two other were injured. Shootings have been occurring more and more because Americans are protected by the second Amendment, giving them a right to own a gun. Schools need to provide more safety to their students. It is their responsibility for their safety and protection to make schools a safe place for students to learn. Students should be worried about passing their classes or taking the SATs, not worrying if their school is next for a shooting.

Bullying can cause the victim to serious outcomes such as desocialization and not wanting to make new friends or talk to people. Bullies can emotionally scar their victims and this problem will continue for years. About 20% of kids ages 12-18 experience being bullied. It has been reported that the bullies had bigger qualities such as more money and more strength. Bullying can happen anywhere in school such as hallway, classroom, cafeteria, locker room, or anywhere else in the buildings.

A number of factors, such as disease, inflation, and even chicken feed, have greatly increased the price of eggs. The recently diminished Covid-19 virus greatly impacted the US economy, ultimately inflating the prices of almost everything, one of them being chicken feed. The lack of food for birds was detrimental to the cost of eggs, being that production will cost more. This was one of the major factors. Additionally, the Avian flu that spread amongst most bird species in the recent year has drastically lowered the number of chickens that can be used for egg production. Together, these issues made an impactful and noticeable difference in the price of eggs that we are seeing today.

It has been made apparent that the number of health care workers in the U.S. has to increase reasonably to meet demand in the coming years. In a study presented by firm Mercer established that the U.S. would soon have numerous healthcare worker shortages in the coming decade. The firm examines that by 2025 we would have more than 400,000 home health aides and 29,000 nurse practitioners; as well as shortages in other health care professions. The reason to why there are so many shortages are contributed to the aging population which includes the Baby Boomer Generation. In the coming years we will face shortages in Healthcare Educators, Nurses, and Physicians. Although there are some solutions to help fix this shortage issue. Here are few strategies that can help lower this situation. Provide Online healthcare degrees and certificates, Collecting Reliable data for health databases, and Giving health care workers a voice.
